I hear what you are saying. Defiantly a risk and a different class of ship.  For us, we already had a really good discount on the Viva because of our Epic cruise being canceled.  So with another 20% discount we should be getting a really good rate.   You can’t usually combine % off discounts, but in this case if we go with the Getaway we can.  We have been on the Getaway before and we enjoyed the ship.  When it comes to a cruise in Europe, for us the ship is a second thought.  We have a busy port schedule and from our past experience on the NCL Star from Venice we will spend a lot of time off the ship. I do feel really bad about all the people from the Getaway that have been canceled due to the redeployment of the ship to Europe.   Hope everyone finds a new cruise that works for them.

That sounds super! We got a discount as well because Prima was canceled. We live in Europe, so for us it’s all about the ship 😀. I guess no matter where we all go, we are all lucky enough to even consider going on a cruise. The escape was nice! Lots of GREAT staff. Curious to see the itinerary now for the Getaway. Happy cruising !!!

After much thought, I think my husband and I are going to roll the dice and go with the Getaway cruise.  We were originally on the Epic which they canceled many months ago.  We booked the Viva because we had a good discount from the canceled Epic cruise.  We don’t know what cabin we will have or where we are going; but we will be in Europe and that’s all that matters to us. We can be flexible with the dates if we need to be.  We are staying in the Haven so I know we will have a fantastic time and a great cabin.  The 20% discount of my original fare is too hard to pass up.

I was thinking that 20% discount is not really a discount moving from the Viva to the Getaway. The Prima and Viva are different classes of ships than the Getaway.  The price we are paying is about 20% more than a regular cruise....What do you think?😀 I really don't know what to do.  As someone else mentioned, how can we make a decision on the cruise if you don't know the ports.  We just got off the Escape and we were really looking forward to a different style of Norwegian Cruise Line ship. The Getaway looks very similar to the Escape so it doesn't really excite us.

We were booked on the Prima out of Amsterdam, but that was canceled and now the Viva is canceled....I know its firstworldproblems, but I am really disappointed.  We are looking for another cruise that leaves Amsterdam; maybe we try Celebrity Apex? #cryinginamsterdam

Just got the email our July 2023 cruise was cancelled due to redeployment:(

On to finding a new destination.

I am so sorry to hear that! We live in Europe. They cancelled our Norwegian Viva cruise (3rd July 2022) and now they are offering us the Getaway.  I guess they will repositioned it here.  Really not sure what we are going to do.  This is the second time we were bumped off a new ship...first the Prima and now the Viva

  4. Hi Victor: Carlos and I are sailing with you on June 3rd. We arrive in Amsterdam on May 24th for two nights (staying at Barangay B&B which we like), then we fly to Stockholm on May 26th to start a one week “capitols” tour with Authentic Scandinavia. We arrive back in AMS on June 2nd to catch boat next day. We’ll be staying in AMS for another 4 nights at the end of the cruise. We’ve both been to AMS many times but this will be Carlos’s first visit to Scandinavia, and I wanted to do it right. We appreciate your information about Dappermarkt and Boi Boi. Never seen that part of AMS, and we also love good Thai food, we visit Little Thai Prince every time we visit. We are looking forward to meeting you. Best regards, Bob & Carlos

Ahhh, That is great! Super! We know the Little Thai Prince...great place..If you like it there, you will definitely like Boi Boi... Looking forward to meeting you onboard! Are any of you guys doing any excursions. We have only now just started to think about it.

    Cheers!

  5. Hi Peter and Matt,

You must be getting so excited! A lot of visitors stay in the centre. I am not sure what you are interested in, but if you venture out to the east of the city, you will find all kinds of little gems. Dappermart is nice to see. There is a windmill close by and if you like Thai food, there is a little hole in the wall called Boi Boi. For me they have the best Thai food. In the neighborhood you will also find Tropen museum. Beautiful museum which focuses on culture from around the world.

Have you cruised Holland America in the past? This is our first time: we consistently sail on Norwegian.

    Cheers!

Forgot to mention that there is a brewery in the east as well. Right underneath the windmill I mentioned above.

  7. Does anyone know if the Joy will have the "practice sailing" in Europe before it goes to Asia?

I love doing those cruises... short 2 or 3 day cruise, usually from Germany or the U.K.

We look forward to the Bliss in 2018.

  8. We sailed MSC for the first time in October. We had a fantastic time. The food was good to excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shows in the theater were some of the best I've ever seen at sea.

    Hi BusyBlond,

I am interested too... have you cruised on NCL? If so how is it different? We have 8 NCL Cruises and one royal Caribbean... any cruise would be nice, but compared to NCL we won't cruise RC again. I am curious to know what the differences are between between NCL and MSC. we almost booked MSC, but then backed out.

  9. Our cruise is scheduled to arrive back in Amsterdam at 7:00 am on a Sunday in June. Choices for flights back to the US are 10:30 or 13:30. Both are non stop? Is the 10:30 easily doable? We have flown home from AMS several times, but never on disembarkation day. Information/advice is welcome. Thank you.

As long as you are quick, and get off right at 7:00 am, it's doable. I live in Amsterdam close to the cruise terminal. Depending on how you get to the airport. If you get a cab, Sunday morning in Amsterdam at that time is so quiet. You can be at the airport in 1/2 hour. If you take the train, I would count on 1 hour to 1.5 hours to the airport. The cruise terminal is really close Amsterdam central station. There is a tram that can take you there (1 stop). The train ride is about 15 minutes from central station to the airport. Hope that helps.

  10. As I understand, sodas are not included in the room. What kind of things does the butler bring? caa you request Soda from him without being charged? What about sparkling water/seltzer? Lemonade?

The butler service will bring you anything as long as it is within your package. Outside of your package you will be charged. The butler will do almost anything you need. Some have charges others do not. Always tip accordingly [emoji3].

  11. Hi, we are sailing on Epic in February. A little nervous as this is our first time on the EPIC and have seen lots of bad reviews. We love NCL and have sailed on the Escape, Sun and Jewel so I am still hopeful My question is regarding reservations. Our last cruise on the Jewel we were not in the Haven but had a suite with a butler and concierge and they made our reservations for us. Do we need to pre book on the EPIC or will they have seats for us?

We have been on Epic a few times. The last time was with Haven access. There is a concierge and a butler who can help with any reservations. VERY helpful especially if anything was fully booked. We always tried to book far enough ahead, without causing too much problems for staff. Epic has a restaurant only for Haven guests which is great!!! Depending on how busy the cruise is, try to book as much in advance as you can.

  12. We once booked on Norwegian Epic and got a "free" upgrade... they lowered the price on our cruise, when I called Norwegian we still paid the same price, but they upgraded us to a aft penthouse suite. Was great! But now I hear all of these comments, sounds like this is rare. Worth to watch for price drops though, see what you can get.

  13. I am pretty pumped about our trip on harmony of the seas next week... We have a junior suite as well, as it wasn't that more of a jump from a balcony cabin. Like many on here we are confused about what is included in a junior suite. Thanks for above link and for all the comments... Really helps.

  14. Hi everyone,

We have only exclusively cruised Norwegian Cruise Lines and we are interested in trying Royal Caribbean. I have read many reviews and it would appear that it comes down to taste and what you like best.

We love the relaxed feel on Norwegian and the Free style cruising. We are not much into eating at set times and with people we generally do not know.

Aside from that, we are pretty easy...Does Royal Caribbean offer free styling cruising...Do you need to get dressed up to eat. We don't mind wearing a pair of chino's and a nice shirt...But a shirt, tie and jacket is a bit too much for us.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
