  1. All lines are different and I don't think we should expect perfection, where perfection = absolutely everything exactly as we, ourselves, want it, on any line or any ship. If we were able to pick and mix the elements to have cabins from x, food from y, entertainment from z etc, it would indeed be a great holiday!

We've cruised P&O, Cunard, Thomson, MSC, NCL, Princess. Each has plusses and minuses. Each cruise has had highlights and probably some niggles, though I try not to focus on them.

We did the colourful coasts cruise on Majesty in January. Flying from our local airport straight to the sun is great, and with it all being under Thomson's control you know you're not going to miss the boat or anything.

The Thomson ships are not opulent but I had no worries about cleanliness. It's easy to find your way around

To my taste, the food was pretty poor in the MDR. However, we relocated to the ?Piazza? buffet area, which was calm and airy and where staff were delightful, insisting on carrying trays, fetching water etc. We found the selection available suited us fine

The entertainment was excellent. The final 'songs from the shows' was one of the best performance shows I have seen at sea

There were small delights - a 'pop-up' chocolate fountain appearing in the reception area one evening for instance.

If the price was right I wouldn't hesitate to take a winter cruise in warm climates with Thomson again. I would probably aim to take my main meal ashore at lunchtime and enjoy the evening with a tapas style meal in the Piazza and whatever entertainment was on offer

    Enjoy your holiday!

Thank you for this I think I will stick with the holiday I love the different ports and find land based holiday sa little restrictive unless we go to greece when it S/C and we hire two wheeled transport, I must admit I had thought I had posted this on thomson we are doing britania in march so probably got a little mixed up

  2. We have booked a cruise in January on the Thomson Majesty. Previous ocean cruising have been with RCI and P and O which we have loved. We have also done nile cruising. We know that this will be different than the bigger ships, but we wanted to try something different. I am now worried that we have done the right thing and am considering changing to land based holiday due to the negative reviews and comment's from other Travellers. We are doing cooler full coasts and are not worried about rough seas. But do expect basic cleanliness and good food any comments on your experiences greatly received.

  3. We did this up by cable car looked at the gardens then to began down we then walked down the hill to the town center lots of taxis round where the toboggans stop don't except first price went from 20 euro right down to 5 though we enjoyed the walk all down hill and didn't take long loved it

  4. I we did our first cruise this year and did most trips ourself if you are mobile there is a nice walk up the hill to the castle where you can see for miles also free to get in but is all up hill apart from that it's really only shops we did most stops on our own but wanted to see things near to the port if I was going any distance I would go with the cruise ship until I have done a few more cruises.

We always planned the furthest distance first so if you run out of time you are closer to the ship we also planned to get back for late lunch or afternoon tea depending when the ship was departing

    Enjoy

  6. We have booked our first cruise on the AOS royal Carribean I have been looking for info on muster stations and what you need to do and have a couple of questions.

How will we know where our muster station is ?

Do you need to collect life jackets?

When is it likely to happen ?

We will be sailing from Southampton at 1630
