  1. what is patriot point??

Since so many people inquire about Patriots Point and I have a background with advertising companies, I thought I would try something.

I called their Marketing Director and explained Cruise Critic then asked if she'd be willing to offer Cruise Critic Charleston visitors a discount. She agreed.

Patriots Point is willing to give a $3 off each regular adult admission with a promo code used on their web site to purchase tickets. She said the code would expire Dec. 31, 2018 but the discount would not be valid on Senior, Military or Child tickets because they're already discounted.

Use promo code: PPCC2017. It should be working in a couple of days.

Other area tourist coupons can be found at the Charleston CVB web site and Traveler of Charleston Magazine.

  2. Carnival Legend does not have Guy's or Blue Iguana. Does not have rum or tequila bar or Alchemy bar.

Cannot bring any alcohol on board if this is classified as an Australian cruise.

Gratuities are included in your fare, however, on our cruise this year i did find an extra cash tip for those you thought gave great service was appreciated.

Hope this helps. If there's anything else you'd like to know i sailed on her out of Sydney earlier this year so ask away.

    :)

What ports did you see?? wondering about excursions .....

  3. Before I go get some sleep before continuing, I'll just quickly explain some of the differences when sailing out of Australia on Carnival.

One is that the ship runs on Australian dollars - not all ships do (RCI for example still runs in US dollars) so it's worth mentioning.

Second is that there are no gratuities. Australia not being a tipping culture, Carnival decided to just make it an all-in-one fare, there is no separate gratuity charge that can be removed. (I was talking to my waiter about the differences in sailing here vs US, and they do get the same amount as if there were gratuities added, so they are not missing out. Many, especially seasoned cruisers, will often give a cash tip on the last night). I believe Princess is the same, but RCI and Celebrity do have the added gratuities.

Third is there are no alcoholic drink packages. Again not the same for all lines, most do have them here including other Carnival Corp lines, but for some reason they have decided against it for Carnival Oz.

And the last one (that I can think of) is the room service menu is completely different, and nothing on it is complimentary (it's actually quite expensive, and not worth using). I have no idea why!

Oh there is one more - there's Vegemite at breakfast :)

Anyone have a copy of the room service menu?? and prices?? I am wondering about hot breakfasts??

  4. I posted elsewhere but Moana Tours on Bora Bora do jetski tours. We actually rented a private 17 ft Boston Whaler for two hours which covered several snorkling sites and a circumnavigation of the Island. This is the way to go. Fast boat and no other pax.

    Thanks!!

  5. If you are there on a Saturday morning, go up to the Kapiolani Community College's Farmers Market. Not that far up the hill towards Diamond head from Honolulu. Lots of good quality local foods, products, crafts and some amazing food to munch on. It gets crowded, but so much fun. I've bought some small bags of single farm, organically grown, shade grown coffee beans that I took home.

If you are staying down in Waikiki, take a healthy morning walk up to Diamond Head Market, grab a tasty Blueberry Cream Cheese Scone, and walk the effects of that heavenly concoction back down the hill to Waikiki;) They have more than Blueberry, but I liked those the best. (you can drive or take The Bus, but I feel better when I eat that scone, knowing that I did some exercise to get it!) I stayed at Hilton Hawaiian Village, at the far end of Waikiki, and it was a nice 45 minute walk each way.

    That sounds lovely. Thanks!!
