Norwegian Star for New Year's with kids?

Hi! I've never sailed NCL are considering it for New Year's eve cruise from LA to Mexico (also looking at Carnival Miracle and Ruby Princess). It will be grandparents, mom and 2 kids (6 and 8 years old).

I am wondering how is Star for kids, their kids club and if it will be family friendly cruise? How are aboard activities?

 

I would appreciate any advice! Thanks!
