lovetexas Posted February 24, 2009 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2009 You know it amazes me how many people still smoke?! We were in the Cancun area recently and there were lots of people smoking. They were mostly not from America, but it distrubed me that so many were just young people. Having friends that have died of cancer, and friends that are fighting it-- this is very upsetting!:(
Mrwheels29 Posted February 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2009 I was on the 2/7-2/14 caribbean trip on orchestra It really depends on how well your sense of smell is to the smell of smoke. In the casino there is a slight odor of smoke and in some smaller bar areas as well since the staff really didn't stop anyone from lighting up just post signs saying no smoking but yes it happens all over. As the caribbean sailings have more americans its not as much smoking as I assume one might see on euro trips. On the pool deck our trip seemed to be more smokers on the port side but the odor was all over due to ashtrays being all over. Personally I didn't find it nearly as bad as it was in any restaurant in the US before the smoking bans started. light one in a room of 75 people and thats about as bad as it was in my opinion and the cabins didn't smell at all. bgbluiii Posted February 25, 2009 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2009 I was on the Orchestra, back to back, 2/7 - 2/14 and 2/14 - 2/21. I noticed a big difference in the amount of smoke on these two sailings. There was a lot more smoking on the second which I attribute to the greater number of European travelers on board. There was so much smoke in the casino that I and many of my friends could not tolerate it. Some passengers even smoked on their balconies although that was supposed to be forbidden due to the risk of fire. And, as noted above, the crew did not limit smoking to the posted areas.
