Are there beaches that you can go to just relax? I didn't see any beach excursions listed.

you can take a boat over to a caye (island) and use the beaches there or google bannister island. the beachs, around the port, are on a very busy highway, very narrow strip of beach and not very clean. there may be a resort that allows beach access.

belize is a better adventure port then beach port.

Bannister Island is going to be your best bet for a beach day. You can usually go with your ship or else Coral Breeze and Fab Tours offer beach excursions. I went last year and it was beautuiful and they family enjoyed kayaking around the island. Next time we stop in Belize, we are heading to Caye Caulker and the "split".

We love Caye Caulker (motto: Go Slow) but please note that 'The Split' is smaller than you may think! The beach area there is beyond tiny and I would only suggest that strong swimmers actually swim in the split part- I think there are some currents that while they may not be hugely dangerous, probably are not what you are looking for. I saw local residents snorkel there but I wasn't brave enough to do it.

 

If you google Caye Caulker Split, you can see some photos of the area to get a better idea.

 

And I'm not at all trying to discourage you from visiting Caye Caulker, just to be informed before you go :cool:
