bardstowntraveller Posted September 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2009 We have one day in London after our cruise next year. Rather than try to cram in all the major sites we have decided to go to the Portobello Roads market (we'll be there on a Saturday). Are there any other sights around that area that we should try to see? How about restaurants -- any recommendations?
handfordr Posted September 7, 2009 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2009 Portobello is a get there real early place. Going to Camden Market at Camden Town afterwards would be a good contrast, if you're into markets and you'd still have most of the afternoon. The nearest major tourist attraction to Portobello is probably Kensington Palace about 10/15 minutes walk in Kensington Guardens. However by the time you have walked this you could have got to most places in Central London using the tube. The Notting Hill/Bayswater area is a budget hotel district. There are a lot of pubs in the area and Queensway in Bayswater has virtually every cuisine you can think off.

Rather than try to cram in all the major sites we have decided to go to the Portobello Roads market (we'll be there on a Saturday). Are there any other sights around that area that we should try to see? How about restaurants -- any recommendations? We went to Portobello Road the Saturday before our cruise on 8-23. It was CRAZY busy but SO much fun. I would go back in a heart beat...even as busy as it was. After we walked down, then back up the road we had lunch at The Portobello Organic Kitchen. I would highly recommend this small restaurant. Some may see "Organic" and think tofu or something, but all it really meant was fresh ingrediants. We had Garlic bread and Pizza which were both really good and reasonably priced. The restaurant is at 207-209 Portobello Road.
