tipping with families!!!!

I guess to solve the whole tipping debate maybe cruise lines should just raise their prices to include tips for each person...as a person who works for tips (casino dealer) my hourly wage would not feed my family by no means. My employer expects me to be tipped to make up my wages. You would not believe the customers who think I'm paid way more than my actual wage ...What if you had a bad day and didn't perform 100 percent at work regardlesss of your job, should you not get paid for that day??? Everyone working on the ship deserves their wages one way or another...Do I tip some more than others why sure I do...but I figure tip money into the price of a vacation and believe me I will be paying my share I'm taking 4 children with me.

Well said. A very valid point of view.

I usually make my decision based on overall performance for the week and not on the individual day. I also take all factors into account.

On one of our cruises our dining room assistant waiter was VERY sick. She worked the first night and did a terrible job. She was then off for two nights with a substitute. The 4th night service was passable. 5th-7th night were fantastic with her service. I tipped her very well as I have been a server and had to work sick or injured. I admired her drive and dedication.

Another cruise we had a room steward who was HORRIBLE. He barely touched the room, if he even showed at all. I saw him just hanging out in the hallway on more than one occasion so I knew he wasn't overworked. To be honest his attitude was just horid. We needed extra hangers and you would have thought we were asking for the moon. He got them but with much attitude. I asked for ice and never got it, ect... I gave him a very minor tip that did not equal the suggested amount. He was lucky I even gave him that.

sas80: I give up. I won't comment on any of your posts because it seems to bother you. I had thought we were free to express our opinions and so forth without being scolded for it. As a last response, I felt the need to comment on it because sweeping generalizations are a pet peeve of mine. I try to avoid them (and I know I fail sometimes). And I never wrote that we feel that way about tipping. Quite the opposite as we tip for quality of service and tip extra if we've had extra requests. I was using a parallel based on your own post to explain why it doesn't make complete sense to me. If you truly feel that all passengers should tip or not regardless of what the cruise line recommends and regardless of quality of service, of course I have no argument with your opinion. I disagree with it, but that is not the same as telling you that your opinion doesn't matter. You seem perfectly happy to explain exactly why everything I wrote was basically wrong or an attack on someone else, but don't care to have me do the same in return. I find it funny that you would write a detailed "scolding" to me based on your belief that I was scolding you.

Sorry all. Didn't mean to take this so far OT, but I felt the need to respond to a personal "lecture."

Actually, in all earnestness and sincerity, that post was NOT aimed at you. It was truly an expression of my feelings. I apologize for not making that clear and appearing as if I was lecturing you.
