John answers the smokers

What's a shame? That people against personal freedom/responsibility constantly have to have the "government" help them impose their ideas on ones who do not agree with them? If that's the case then YES it is a shame.

I abhor but see the inevitability of the non-smokers only waking up when their "rights" are infringed upon... and it will be to late.... sigh....

I am not against personal freedom but I am against your cigarette smoke. Eventually, we don't need the government as all smokers kind of take care of themselves.

Non-smokers rights are already infringed upon.

Smokers in Florida, since the new state tax hit are paying $.13 per cig in taxes. I sure don't want to pay that if they all quit. Packs are around $6 in quick corner stores.

The prices are crazy. Well, once you do the math, it is only .30 per cigarette. Bet people are willing to pay more.

You state one thing and refute yourself in the same comment...

And BTW cancer kills MORE non-smokers than it does smokers... (and Radon kills 5 times more than second hand smoke - according to the US)

What we have been trying to say all along.......:D

NOT from anything a smoker does

From ACS:

Cigarette smoking accounts for at least 30% of all cancer deaths.

So that leaves 70% that die from cancer without anything to do with smoking.. NOT "second hand smoke, not smoking... just living...

Bobsfamily,

This does not mean it is okay.

I noticed in his blog that it said that most landbased casinos are nonsmoking. That is NOT the case here in Oklahoma. They are total smoking - and as a smoker myself, the smoke inside these HUGE casinos is a tad overpowering!!!

Same for Louisiana and Mississippi. Where in the world did you come up with the "100% non-smoking" figure?

Wow! People seem to get awful upset over smoking. I too am a smoker and I don't find it too difficult to wait a couple of hours to have a cigarette. As far as losing rights go I would agree if it didn't pose a health risk to others. But it does so we should be mindful of non-smokers.

I think the figure came from John Heald's blog. I really don't know where the researchers obtained this information. To me, it is more like Carnival is moving more in line with land based casino's in offering more non-smoking areas not making them non-smoking. Non-smoking casinos obviously don't work. But making them partial does.

I don't mind being in a smoky room. I just can't take the direct smoke coming off the cigarettes. A non-smoking section is really all that is needed.

So you could drop the cancer rate 30% by banning smoking?

It's always the governments fault.

Justify, justify, justify.

Carnival IS compromising....they are simply adjusting to the fact that NON smokers make up the majority

Smokers can still smoke...just in fewer places

it is not like they have to go without a cigarette during the cruise...they just can't overwhelm the casino like they have done

they have fewer places to smoke

Dude, the key word there is "majority". Non-smokers are the majority and perhaps the majority of people can afford more activities on the ships rather than spending money on cigarettes. And maybe the majority of people will live longer, thus cruise more in their golden years. I'm just sayin'.

Part of the "majority". :D

Here in Western PA, our casino has both smoking & non. Now please, pass the popcorn & the chicken feet. I believe smokers have rights too! Who would pay for the programs, if it was not for the taxes.

Paying the tax is up to you, you choose to pay it.

As a non-smoker I don't pay the tax at all.

BTW thank you.:D
