John answers the smokers

Are you going for some sort of drama award?

Smokers can police themselves or others will. So far, the restrictions have been moderate.

Nope, no drama award anticipation for me. You though, probably in the bag for one. Police away, just don't hurt yourself :)

Danger or not, considerate or not, I simply don't like the smell....

hurts my (blue/sensitive) eyes....it smells...nasty

I don't care what smokers do tucked away in some places just for them

I don't care if they have a bar, a big bar "just for them"....a deck area

or even a seperate casino

just keep them away from me

I think the new rules and use of space that Carnival is trying on Dream will be a huge step in the right direction...and I hope it soon extends to the whole fleet

welcome to planet earth...where there are lots of things we don't like and never will. We have to endure all sorts of bad things and if 'smell' is your worst worry, consider yourself a fortunate person and just be happy:)

I am 26y/o and have been smoker for 10yrs now. I was raised on a tobacco farm, and most of my family, including myself, work for a large tobacco company. I have always considered myself a polite smoker, if I am bothering someone, then I will move away from them, as long as we are not in the smoking section. If we are in the smoking section, and my smoke is bothering you, then move away or kiss my a$$.

I also, am not stupid. I know exactly what smoking is doing to my body. It says so right there on the pack. But, there are some people out there that think that one whiff of smoke is going to cause them to get cancer and die immediatly. They are just plain ignorant. You have to be exposed to alot of 2nd hand smoke to get sick from it.

And for those on here that are talking about justification of smoking, they 2 can kiss my a$$. I do not have to justify my smoking to anyone. The law says I can smoke, therefore its my legal right to smoke.

I really dont see what this whole "discussion" is all about. The bottom line is that there are places to smoke on the ship. There are much fewer smoking areas than there are non-smoking areas. It should be no problem for the non-smokers to avoid the smoking areas.

Of course, if they would legalize a certian other type of smoke, then I would never touch a cigarette again.:D

There is no constitutional right to smoke.

Was it legal for you to buy cancer sticks at the ripe old age of 16?

Exactly! Smoking is not only legal, it is permitted in certain areas on cruiseships. Period. WHEN it is not permitted and is deemed illegal, this whole argument will change to something else. There are lots of things in our environment that cause cancer, i.e. asbestos, that are killing people, and yeah, smoking kills people too. I know. I've had several family members who died from smoking-related illnesses, but that is not what is up for discussion here -- the topic of this website is cruising, and cruising allows limited smoking areas, and that is that. People who rant and rave about snmokers/smoking on cruiseships are simply wasting their breath :) because as long as it's permitted, it's PERMITTED. Stay away from smoking areas, and smokers need to be considerate of those who don't want it near them.

You are just being modest.

Guns don't kill people, cigarettes do, and I'll be ready for the next inconsiderate one. ;)

Just a guess, but your negativity will probably get you before someone's second-hand smoke does.

Actually this discussion is about John's blog and how the Dream will be restricting smoking even more.....especially in the casino and piano bar.........

BTW who said that you can die by one whif of smoke:confused: Why are people pulling stuff out of their butts to justify what they do:confused:

The use of asbestos has been practically banned into extinction and I don't think smoking it was ever in style . :p

Non-smokers will win, because they have more breath. ;)

If I want to do something that is perfectly legal, then its my right to do that. The legal system says its ok, so thats all that matters.

Also, no it wasnt legal for me to buy them, but where I was raised at, it wasn't hard to get them. 10 yrs ago it wasnt hard to get an 18y/o to buy them for you.

Practically? does that make it better huh? Practically IS NOT ENOUGH.

Read the rules...smoking is allowed on cruiseships so you need to find a way to deal with it and stay away from smoking areas, while the smokers in turn stay in the designated areas. PERIOD.

It was banned by the EPA until some high dollar lawyers got the ban tweaked a little for limited, specialized use. The general public is no longer allowed to smoke it. You are free to research, but asbestos is not the topic of this thread.

Read my lips, I don't object to smokers, but the fact is, not all smokers obey the rules, which leads to further restrictions and will continue to do so.

You want to glue yourself onto the asbestos issue and Google it to find some nonrelated justification to your ridiculous argument that is fine with me. Asbestos was a minute detail to my response but you are still missing the point. Sigh. SMOKING is legal, permitted, and tolerated by the cruislines. Get over it and stay away from those areas. You see to be bent on enforcing the smoking 'issue' as you see it. Why don't you sign yourself up for 'guard duty' on the ship and make sure the radical smokers stay out of your areas. Other than that, I sure don't know what else to say to you....it's like talking to a 2-year old.

You are correct, as LHP mentioned before, there are a certain amount of a$$hat smokers who believe rules and restrictions don't apply to them and it makes life he ll on non smokers and smokers alike.

What bothers me, other than the a$$hat rule breaking smokers (and circus clowns too but that is another topic), is the "small" vocal minority of non smokers who keep pushing for more and more restrictions. Leave me a few areas on the ship I can have a smoke and I will be happy. If there is a table in the smoking side of the casino, I will play it, if not I will probably play in the non smoking side. If there is no smoking at the piano in the piano bar, I will sit in the smoking section. But if I pay for a balcony cabin and smoking is allowed there, in the great outdoors, I will be having a smoke there with my morning coffee, before dinner drink or 3am nightcap.

Talk a lot to yourself, do you?

You brought up asbestos. Period. The OP requests you to stay on topic and stop grandstanding.

Stay on topic and stop grandstanding.

Good advice you really should heed.

Thank you.

Typical for someone who has no intelligent response :) Throwing out the "grandstanding' statement is a great response for something which you have nothing valuable to rebuke.
