dingers Posted October 26, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2009 We have cruised before but have never cruised the Carribean. Any recommendations on booking shore excursions through the cruise line, or is it better to do it when we get to port? Any places we can contact to arrange shore excursions that might save us some money? Thanks. Looking forward to hearing from fellow cruisers and cruisers who have cruised the Carribean before. swigso Posted October 26, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2009 Hi, Go to the Ports of Call section of the Boards, there are lots of tips and advice, also go to the roll call for your cruise, there will be people on there looking to share tours etc. We follow you on Feb 14th and it is a lovely time to dsail the Carribean. We always book our own tours, sometimes in advance sometimes when we arrive in port, but I always do some research first. We are booked on a day sail from St Thomas with the Indepenence, Capt. Pat is a great source of info and cooks a brilliant lunch whilst Ray makes the best rum punch in the Carribean. Check the web site www.independence44.us we also went on a tour with Hewes tours in Tobago. Look after the ship for us and have a great time. Lsimon Posted October 27, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 27, 2009 As Swigso said, the port of call boards are a great source of information. But if you post more there, or here, be sure to mention what type of activities you like: Do you like touring or sitting on a beach. Active activities (walking, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking) or more passive activities (sightseeing or museums). There's a broad array of activities in the Caribbean and good choices that are very inexpensive (cab to the beach) or a bit more expensive (nicer day sails or diving excursions for example). At some ports the best options are offered by the cruise line but in many cases your best bet is to tour on your own (cab tour or ride to the beach) or pre-arrange a tour or activity with a private tour guide. You might want to download the ship's excursion brochure from Celebrity's site to read through - it can give you an idea of some of the activities available on an island even if you have no itention of booking the ship's tours.
