clsee1515 Posted January 8, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2005 Anyone have any info on this hotel? I see they have an airport shuttle. How far, travel time and taxi $ to cruise port? We will not be renting a car, any good restaurants nearby?:)

1cruiselvr Posted January 9, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 9, 2005 Is the Wyndam Westshore in this area? I just won a priceline bid of $50 on this hotel and I don't have a clue if it's good news or bad. Anybody know about this hotel and it's location? Thanks. tadjr Posted January 10, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 10, 2005 Very good price of $50 a night. It is in the Westshore Business Area on the south end. The Westshore Plaza mall is right across the street. http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/TPAAP/main.wnt has some info on the hotel.... and http://www.westshoreplaza.com has the mall info. Its a good place to be and a great price.
1cruiselvr Posted January 10, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 10, 2005 Thanks for the info. We will be staying there for a pre-cruise night. I know it's close to the airport but what about the port? Happy Sailing!
tadjr Posted January 11, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 11, 2005 Its about 5 miles from the port. 10-15 min ride depending on the traffic and if the cab goes down the interstate or down Kennedy into downtown. I think its a great deal for the location.

scsagh Posted January 13, 2005 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Do you think the area around Busch Gardens is very safe if we are going to be going there one day pre-cruise, or would we be better to stay in another part of town and drive? Nice to get someone elses perspective. Thanks, Sandy
tadjr Posted January 13, 2005 #12 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Which hotels were you looking at? Overall, I wouldnt have a problem staying in the Busch Gardens area, but there are some places better than others. If you get something near USF it would be better in that area vs something near Busch Gardens heading toward downtown. Addresses or names you were thinking about? You might also be able to find something better $wise and drive since you are going to have a car anyway. It doesnt take too long to get there on the weekend and if you can save quite a few $S it might be worth it.
scsagh Posted January 13, 2005 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Tadjr-I didn't have any particular hotel near Busch Gardens in mind, although I saw several hotels that mentioned the I-275 strip or USF. Are these OK? I also saw where the Doubletree Busch Gardens was getting several Priceline awards. Didn't know if I wanted to risk being able to get a room for 4 through Priceline when I know that it is going to be Spring Break time.
tadjr Posted January 13, 2005 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2005 http://www.visittampabay.com/stay/results.php?&pHighRate=9999&pHM[0]=394&pHM[1]=395&pType=184&pubArea=&pAnchorSort=Busch%20Gardens%2FNorth%20Tampa is the Convention and Visitors Bureau website to search for hotels near Busch Gardens. I would stay at something closer to USF/Busch instead of near I275. The Doubletree you mention is in an ok area afaik fairly close to Busch Gardens and away from the "strip". Lenny970 Posted January 23, 2005 #15 Share Posted January 23, 2005 Thanks tadjr, booked SpringHill Suites for king bed, 2 people, 7-2-05 for $76 !! Reviews looked good and price is better than what I've been finding! I'm interested in booking this for 2/19/05 for our pre-cruise night. The best rate I could find was $120 through hotels.com. Is there a better place to search? Maybe the higher rate is due to the time of year though. Thanks, Lenny
1cruiselvr Posted January 23, 2005 #16 Share Posted January 23, 2005 I would try bidding on priceline. However, if you have never bid before, go to biddingfortravel first and read the FAQs before trying. Happy Sailing!
clsee1515 Posted January 23, 2005 Author #17 Share Posted January 23, 2005 Lenny - You may be right. I booked this directly through their web site. Good Luck.
