beaches and history

What is the most economical beach to:

1. get to (walking,bus or taxi..etc)

2. to spend time at (re: food prices, drink prices etc.)

Also is there a historical town near the dock to wander about?

Thanks!

I would not walk from the pier to any beach in Antigua. It could be done but traffic is busy in St. John's and that would be my safety concern with that. We drove so I can't help you out with taxi fares and I never saw a bus station but we did see people waiting for buses along the road but again I wouldn't be able to help with that. There are several beaches that are close such as Fort James, Runaway and Dickenson and Darkwood.

Regarding Historical sites near the pier I would suggest the Cathedral, museum, craft and food markets.

There is much more to see in Antigua such as Betty's Hope, Devil's Bridge, Neslson's Dockyard, English Harbor, Shirley Height's and Fig Tree drive but you would need to rent a car or take a tour.
