We are cruising in Dec on the Sky 3-day cruise. We were looking at shore excursions and then had the thought of just staying on the ship @ Nassau. Has anyone stayed on the ship? What activities are there/ lunch options? Thank you for your help.

We just got off the Sky.. It's a very basic ship, so don't waste time there on your port day in Nassau. Take the water taxi @ $3 one way each or a taxi @ $4 one way each and go over to the Atlantis on Paradise Island. What a casino, what a beach, so very nice..!!

Also, we did NOT dock on the private island due to what they said were "big waves". This was a definite disappointment, but what can one do about weather. The waves were only 2' at most......we didn't understand why they couldn't tender us.

There is no dock at Great stirrup cay. It is tender only. The capt. must have thought it was risky.

I was on the Sky last year for a 4-day trip with the stop in Nassau. Other people have said, and I will too...don't waste time on the boat. We went on a small tour to Queen's Staircase and the top of a fort (4 cruise liners were in that day, so town was pretty busy). Shopping was pretty decent (as in there's Gucci, Lacoste, and some nice high end places as well as touristy areas), and we walked away with Rum for Christmas gifts...those were a big hit! Hand carried from the islands...people loved it! Anyway, we're going on the 3-day Sky on the 20th and plan to visit Atlantis this time. Get out and enjoy it! At least just get off the boat and walk around the port area...that doesn't cost you a thing and you can get right back on the boat if you want (think of it as a photo op!) Or play bingo on board...your call.

Similar to Texana, we didn't anchor at the private island last year due to choppy seas and lots of wind...too risky (the waves WERE big...even looking at them from a 9th floor balcony). The captain set sail and we just cruised around the sea for the day...amazing how he always managed to dodge all the clouds (even though we could see it raining in the distance)! For that, I applaud him! ;)

While the tender can certainly handle the "small" waves, the issue is going to be safely getting a large number of people carrying things between the ship and the tender. The ship may be stable because of its large size, but the tender is going to be bobbing in the waves. Both up and down, and also closer and farther from the ship. The ramp is not going to be very stable, especially for small children, the elderly, or anyone else who may have balance issues. Think about trying to walk from a fairly stable platform across a ramp to something that is bobbing up and down 2-3 feet a couple of times a minute. Also, if they expect the wind and waves to increase during the day, they won't let people off if they think there may be an issue trying to get them safely back on board.
