mcbrides Posted May 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Anyone have an opinion on the salt water v. freshwater pools? I think all of RCI ships are salt water. Is this a problem in enjoying the water?
inkspress yourself Posted May 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2004 The only thing I don't really like about salt water pools is that if you have just shaved your legs the water stings. It doesn't impact my enjoyment greatly, but I generally have fun no matter what. Dawn
cruiserforlife Posted May 19, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Wasn't really super happy about them but swam in them everyday. As long as you don't open your eyes in the water or drink too much (saltwater),you won't really be able to tell the difference. Helps you float better! cmason Posted May 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Its a swimming pool. If you find swimming pools enjoyable, you will find this one enjoyable. I bet if no one told you it was saltwater, you would have no idea. It looks like a pool with regular pool water. I find that opeing my eyes in ANY pool hurts (due to chlorine). KShea Posted May 19, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2004 I thought I would hate it. But it really wasn't a big deal. If I had the choice I think I would pick freshwater...but the other tradeoff is that the water is changed everyday....where with the freshwater pools they wouldn't be. It won't effect your vacation..... trish1c Posted May 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 19, 2004 I prefer salt water pools. The salt water is better for your skin & easier on your suit -- no harsh chemicals. Trish
Trevoli Posted May 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 19, 2004 The only thing I don't like about salt-water pools, is how my skin feels when it's dry. Kind of crusty. To alleviate that, I just stand under the shower for a minute when I exit the pool and head for my lounge chair. T
Bonnie Voyager Posted May 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2004 I love the saltwater pools. I find them more invigorating than freshwater pools. caviargal Posted May 19, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 19, 2004 They are salt but are still heavily chlorined. Takes it toll on bathing suits. I like the salt water personally as it is good for the skin. RumRunner01 Posted May 19, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 19, 2004 I didn't even realize they were salt since I had been so used to being in the ocean during my excursions, I had just been used to the salt water. I realized they were salt when a little accidentally got in my mouth. I doubt you will really notice a difference. imsulin Posted May 19, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 19, 2004 They're actually a little less salty than pure ocean water, and as caviargal pointed out, they are heavily chlorinated, so yes...harsh chemicals. Salt water pools are far cheaper to fill and maintain than fresh water pool, which is why so many lines use them. I personally prefer the fresh water pools on Holland America, but have spent many hours in salt water pools (and far more hours in the ocean!) and don't find them to be a problem. Trust me...the wrinkles in my bathing suits were probably salt water related. Wish I could say the same about the wrinkles on my face!
garnetjanet Posted May 20, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 20, 2004 I like to swim, so I swim. But if I had my preference, I would rather have a freshwater pool on the ship(or at least one of each). I'd rather save my saltwater time for the ocean and beaches at the ports of call. Just my opinion. Enjoy. want2seaitall Posted May 20, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 20, 2004 So when they empty the pools every night...they are emptying all those chemicals into the oceans...yikes!!! That is a lot of cruiseships emptying out there. happysinglemom Posted May 20, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 20, 2004 I'm very happy the pools are saltwater - I'll take a saltwater pool over freshwater any day. Much better for the skin, and you can float! As far as the "chemicals" - salt is sodium CHLORIDE - chlorine - very little impact on the ocean. Adventure of the Seas will be our maiden cruise! imatarb Posted May 21, 2004 #24 Share Posted May 21, 2004 As long as it's a pool full of some sort of clean water, fresh or salt, I don't care. I can always rinse off when I get out.
