How does price guarantee work with TA

I've been on 3 Carnival cruises all booked through Carnival. This upcoming cruise I thought give a travel agent a try.

So here's my problem.

Looking online, Carnival is now offering free upgrades. I called Carnival twice and verified that we could get our 8C cabin at the 7A rate.

Carnivals new price including all taxes is about $70 less than I booked it. When I called my TA I was told my original booking is still less and the taxes on Carnivals new quote are actually higher.

When I price it out on line it comes out exactly as Carnivals new price with the upgrade.

So I'm confused. Is my TA correct or are they missing something?

Thanks for any help.

Another possibility is that Carnival distinguishes between a reduced posted price and a free upgrade. If they are still posting your cabin at $x BEFORE applying the upgrade, and the upgraded room is still posted at the higher price -- they will argue that the prices haven't changed -- only the incentive. I know that sounds tricky but it would be a way for them to move some cabins without giving all booked passengers a discount. Car industry has been doing for years -- rather than lower prices, they give. Ask your TA, and just cuz I'm curious I'll ask mine.

After checking back for more detailed information from Carnival here's what I found out.

When my TA booked my cruise she did not use the early saver rate. So what happens then is in early November I was no longer able to get a reduced price . Carnival calls it the standard penalty time. But I am eligible for any upgrades. The early saver rate would have allowed me to get price reductions up to 48 hours of sailing.

I wish my TA would have just told me that and saved me time this past month searching for a better rate.

I think from now on I'll book directly through Carnival for the cruise and maybe let the TA handle everything else.
