jgoga Posted January 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2005 We will soon embark on the Jewel and one of the locations is Nassau. Does anybody know how far Atlantis is from the pier? We will be there from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, is this doable? I would really love to go to Atlantis. Tank you, John
stretch Posted January 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2005 You'll have plenty of time. Just catch a cab at the enterance to the pier and you'll be there in 10 or so minutes. Stretch
dfgf Posted January 12, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2005 You can take a water taxi for $6 roundtrip, per person.
goodml Posted January 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We were there on the Jewel last month. We also took the water taxi over. Bought round trip tickets for $6 each. When you get off the water taxi its about a 10 minute walk to Atlantis. There's a huge construction site (expansion of Atlantis) that you have to walk around but it's a nice walk. There was a really long wait for the water taxi coming back - not sure what happened. If I was doing it again I think I'd buy a one way water taxi ticket because it was kind of neat, and then grab one of the regular taxis outside of Atlantis for the ride back. Either way, it was worth seeing Atlantis.
jgoga Posted January 13, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Thanks guys. Once I get to Antlantis can I visit Atlantis grounds? Like the aquarium and such? Is there a fee? Or should i just go through my cruiseliner? John
ruskatab Posted January 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We went to the beach over by Atlantis and decided to walk to the hotel and look around. We were told we would be stopped by security if we went out by where the pool and slides are. We got to Atlantis later in the afternoon and we walked around all through the resort and out by the pools and never once did anyone say a thing to us. We saw security guards and they watched us walk around. The place was awesome! You can see Atlantis when your coming into port and when you are docked. jgoga Posted January 13, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted January 13, 2005 I think that if we go through our cruise line we would be able to use all that right? Were you able to see the aquarium? John
ahoughton Posted January 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2005 There is a small aquarium next to one of the restaurant that is free, the large one has a fee.
GatorGirl Posted January 13, 2005 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2005 How do you pick up the water taxi to Atlantis from the ship? I'm going on the Majesty in March. I've only gotten to Atlantis via regular taxi. Thanks!
Tra4 Posted January 13, 2005 #10 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We rented a room at the comfort suites online for 200.00. There were 4 of us, so basically the excursion was 50/pp. We were only in Nassau from 8-2, but we cabbed it to comfort inn, checked in & out at the same time and walked to Atlantis. We were there from 9:30-1:15 and enjoyed the slides, the digs, and the many pools. It is really beautiful! Since it was early in the am, it was not crowded at all. We could also enjoy the casino--but just walked thru it. Tracey
ruskatab Posted January 13, 2005 #11 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We never paid a fee...I didnt see anywhere where they took any money. We just walked into the lobby and were looking around and found the aquarium and starting walk through. We asked some other people and they said it was free to walk through as long as you didnt use the pools so we did. We bought some souveniers from a shop there also. ahoughton Posted January 13, 2005 #12 Share Posted January 13, 2005 If you didn't pay you were in the small aquarium. It is pretty big but the big one is like the Rippleys Aquarium, if you have been there. You catch the water taxi by getting a ticket as you enter the building you go through before going into Nassau or you can go out that building turn right and go down behind where the horses line you and the taxis are in the water way there. You can pay there if you want. We enjoy the water taxi but like someone said you might be better off just paying one way so if you decide you don't want to ride it back you can take a cab. They pile you in like sardines are they are a little rickety looking but we enjoy them.
madelinerose Posted January 13, 2005 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We took a taxi to Cable Beach, spent about 2 hours there. Took a van back to downtown Nassau, walked through downtown back to the ship, took showers and changed and then took a taxi to Atlantis. It's gorgeous. We also managed to walk through all of Atlantis, even the "restricted" areas, without paying a dime. We had a great day in Nassau. ;)
FlyingPhotog Posted January 13, 2005 #14 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We went to Nassau on a non-cruise trip last June. Took the water Taxi across the lagoon for $3 per person one-way. Atlantis was somewhat of a disappointment. They had no day passes available for purchase (sold out) and even if they were available it would have been like $80-90 per person. We decided to do a walking tour on our own of the complex. We were not allowed to see the aquarium without a room key. We did walk outside around the pools, slides and garden. We also could not access the beach without a room key. It was a nice place but it struck us as a place for snobby rich people. We decided to leave the hotel and we walked to the left from the main entrance and down the road we found an open FREE public beach right next to Atlantis property. We ended up renting lounge chairs and had a wonderful time in the sun & surf. Cable Beach is about a $10 can ride from the pier Area. Cable beach is not a quiet beach. It can be quite crowded with the crowds of the many hotels there. We stayed at the Wyndham on Cable Beach. There's a nice casino there if you didn't lose enough money on the ship. There are so many other next places to see in Nassau besides gawdy Atlantis. We were there for 5 days and saw the island's true beauty.
gadawg1979 Posted January 13, 2005 #15 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We Snorkeled on pearl Island in Nov of 04 and that was a good little trip. Do not pay the extra $$ for the treasure hunt. It is not worth the 50 bucks.
