Evening Gown Dress Makers: Bangkok & Hong Kong

My wife and I will be on a SE Asia Azamara cruise in 2010 that include seveal ports. She has recently read or heard soemwhere that quality evening gowns can be made in Bangkok and Hong Kong. Doe sanyone out there have personal experiences that they can share and the names of merchants they would reccommned?

While I don't know about ladies dresses, two of the best fitting suits that I've ever owned were made in Hong Kong years ago. It would be nice if she could have a similar experience. Thanks

I have no personal experience with this, but do have some friends who have had dresses and/or lovely silk jackets made. The conventional advice is to take along pictures of the style you want. Further, you should allow time for at least one fitting before completion. I'm hesitant to try this with the time we have on our Azamara cruise, although if you are staying on for a post-cruise extension in Hong Kong you may be able to work something out. The guidebooks also indicate that there are good quality ready-made apparel items available throughout SE Asia, again at very reasonable prices, so that could be an option.
