car rental in Miami post cruise

Our post cruise flight out of MIA doesn't leave until 5:00. We were thinking of having one person in our party take a cab to the Hertz location downtown and then return to port to pick us up. Then we would have a vehicle for the day and return it at the airport in time for our flight. Has anyone done this or do you have other recommendations?? THANKS!

Had a horrific experience with Hertz in downtown Miami (see post a few days ago). If I had to do it over again, I would have taken a taxi to the airport & rented there - much faster.

Hertz has a shuttle that picks up right at the port and takes you to their downtown location, 354 s.e. first street, We did this on our last cruise back in January, our flight home was at 6 p.m. It worked out great for us, we drove to south beach and spent the day there and then dropped off the rental car at Mia airport, the drop off is right by the airport but you have to take their shuttle bus to the airport.
