Sheannb Posted January 14, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 14, 2005 was watching CNN this morning and they showed that Hawaii has almost a foot of snow there yesterday. Hard to believe but I saw it with my own eyes. I guess no state is safe from this unusual weather we are having in this country this year. Hope the snow is all done by the time we do our Hawaiin cruise in March.
Speechless Posted January 14, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 14, 2005 really? did they say where? And it wasn't on a mountain? Must be a symptom of global warming.
ahracer Posted January 14, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2005 It is not unusual for some of the highest mountain peaks to have snow. I know on Hawaii where the observatory is gets snow once in awhile. Don't worry it isn't snowing at the beach. It is however a chilly 74 degrees currently in Honolulu. ;) Scott
coiran Posted January 14, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2005 I just checked the CNN site and the current weather in Hawaii - all islands- is in the high 70 and lo 80 partly cloudy - the snow must have been in the mountains - they do snow ski in Hawaii in the winter. melissa_bel Posted January 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 14, 2005 The weather on the volcanoes and peaks of Hawaii can be very unpredictable. I know guides are organizing hikes to see the sun rise and you have to wear warm clothes... It's really not that uncommon.
Mbouck1 Posted January 14, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2005 They did say it was on the Big island I also saw the news report. Not sure if it was in the mountains or not.

NorcalGuy Posted January 15, 2005 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2005 Yes Mii is correct. There is snow most "winters" on Mauna Kea mountain on the big Island of Hawaii. It is quite a beautiful and faantastic site when viewed from a warm palm lined beach!
Cruisin' Chick Posted January 17, 2005 #10 Share Posted January 17, 2005 I remember seeing the snow on the Big Island in March 1990 from our vantage point in Maui (visiting the volcanic park there).
