mbrown02 Posted February 1, 2010 #26 Share Posted February 1, 2010 Hi, I really love ruins and want to make the best choice with the limited time we will have. Which of these two sites is the biggest and most impressive for taking photos?
catsy57 Posted February 2, 2010 #27 Share Posted February 2, 2010 Thanks for the great replies. Here is what I am leaning towards doing: Costa Maya - Chacchoben & Maya Experience w/ Native Choice Santo Tomas - Rio Dulce tour Belize - Lamanai & New River tour w/NCL However, I do have issues with heights (I'd be the American tourist who passes out at the top of the pyramid and falls to her death - I think that might traumatize the other tourists ) so I think the climb to the top at Lamanai is out.... But the rest of the tour still sounds amazing! Any idea what sort of weather we can expect at the end of March/beginning of April?
Scoop_MSU Posted February 2, 2010 #28 Share Posted February 2, 2010 Weather is always an unknown - was sunny and hot in Costa Maya, rained on us in Santo Tomas (but was 103 the day before  ), cloudy in Belize, partly sunny and hot in Cozumel - we were there on 4-7/4-10 last year. Here are the weather links you can monitor - can't get forecasts until 10 days out. New Orleans: http://www.weather.com/outlook/trave...opnav_business Chetumal (closest town to Mahahual that will show up): http://www.weather.com/outlook/trave...opnav_business Santo Tomas (Puerto Barrios, Guatemala): http://www.weather.com/outlook/trave...opnav_business Belize City: http://www.weather.com/outlook/trave...opnav_business Cozumel: http://www.weather.com/outlook/trave...opnav_business
TomN Jess Posted February 3, 2010 #29 Share Posted February 3, 2010 We did the river trip and ruins tour with carnival last may. Had a blast and never felt unsafe. I would not go out on your own in Belize I think you could find some trouble if you weren't careful. I am glad we booked it with the ship because on the way back we had a flat on the bus and it made us late. Here are some photos of the river trip and ruins.
