beckyk329 Posted January 18, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Not positive, but I think Mardi Gras is Feb. 16 this year.. so even if the ships normally "do" something, it's the week prior, so your sailing wouldn't be affected.
golfadj Posted January 18, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2010 I will be on the Freedom the week of Mardi Gras and wonder if they will do anything. Suspect not as it is not exactly an American holiday.
jetskier Posted January 18, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2010 Suspect not as it is not exactly an American holiday. You better not tell the folks in Louisiana or Mobile, AL that. The first Mardi Gras parade was held in Mobile, AL though most folks associate it with New Orleans. Dave
bumbles Posted January 18, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2010 We sailed out of Mobile on the Holiday the Sunday before Mardi Gras in 2009. There were A LOT of activities in Mobile that weekend. We received Mardi Gras beads upon entering the terminal. Other than there being a lot of kids from Louisiana and Alabama on board (which was great for my kids), I believe there was a Mardi Gras themed party in one of the dance clubs...that was it. Rare songbird1329 Posted January 19, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2010 Mardi Gras is the French version of the holiday....it's the day before Ash Wednesday... in the Caribbean and South America it's usually called Carnival. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardi_Gras In the Caribbean, Carnival is celebrated on a number of islands: Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Curaçao, Dominica,Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Martin, Trinidad and Tobago and United States Virgin Islands are some of the celebrants. I'm wondering if they'll do anything on the Valor....it seems Grand Cayman (where we will be on 2/16) holds their carnival at a different time of the year.
