Cloud 9 Posted January 18, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2005 Las, You have not given us enough information about yourselves to select a Ship for you, but here are some statistics regarding the Ships. Oosterdam is a Premium Ship, 5 Stars all around for Service, and extra special amenities like fresh flowers & Gourmet Food. At aprox the same weight as the Spirit & Pride @ 85,000 GRT, She carries aprox 820 fewer passengers. This fact will result in better service, and more space, shorter lines, and faster Embar/Disemarkation & better Tender service. She is the newest of the three Ships, built in 2003. The Cabin prices for Feb, are unusually low. However, the demographics of your fellow cruisers will most likely be different than on Carnival. I would be surprised if the Disco stayed open until 1am versus all night long on Carnvival. Her Port is San Diego and very convenient. The Spirit & the Pride are the same size and each carries aprox 2,667 pax. The Spirit was built in 2001 & leaves from San Diego. The Pride was built in 2002, & leaves from Long Beach. These Ships offer a Value Cruise product and appeal to a Party Crowd, Families, and young children, in Feb. Look at a Cruise Brochure and you will see the differences. Have Fun! StephenJohnson Posted January 18, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2005 -SNIP-this is a very..... important cruise... and I dont wish anything to go wrong. -SNIP- We can probably privide a lot more useful input if you'll be a little less cryptic with what you want and/or ar worried about. Picking the right cruise line for you is relevant, but all of them will treat you well.
cruisead Posted January 18, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2005 How old are you? What's the most important thing about this cruise? What do you want from a cruise? You're going to have a hard time finding a room so late. The week you're planning is President's week and it's a very popular time for cruising. You may be stuck with not the kind of room you want because you waited too long and trying to book a poplular cruise with less than a month is not a good idea if you want to chose the room you want. You also have to book no later than four days before the cruise because the cruise line has to submit their passenger lists to US Customs 48 hours prior to departure. If you're younger, the Carnival ships are the best. HAL tends to be for a retiree crowd, although they would prefer to attract younger people
balanceok Posted January 18, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2005 HAL over Carnival regardless of the ship. Therefore, the Oosterdam.
Happy ks Posted January 19, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2005 I would choose the HAL ship over a Carnival ship. The only thing is, the ports for Carnival Spirit do sound more interesting.....
