ATTN Caffeine-Free Diet Coke Drinkers

Recommended Posts

I posted a question earlier asking about the availability of caffeine-free diet coke on RCI ships. I had received an email from RCI stating they do serve CF Diet Coke, but many people on this board said it wasn't available.

I just got back from NOS on Saturday, and they DO serve CF Diet Coke (in cans only) on the ship. HOWEVER...you have to ask for it, and be vigilant. My experience was that many servers were not even aware they have it. The bartender at dinner said he didn't believe they had it when I asked, but came back after checking and had found two cans. He asked if I would be wanting it every night for dinner, and when I said yes, he proceeded to search the ship and secured a case he kept in the dining room for me (he got a nice tip at the end, by the way!!). I asked in the casino, and they had to go to another location to get one for me. In the pool area, the Solarium bartender kept insisting they didn't offer it (I finally just gave up and left). In the main pool area, the upper pool bar didn't have any, but he went to the bar below and found one for me.

Sometimes I would ask, and they'd bring me regular CF Coke, instead of Diet. I finally found that the best way to make sure I got what I wanted was to ask for "Caffeine Free DIET Coke...in the gold can." It usually did the trick.

Just thought I'd pass that along for those interested.

Wow -

I was totally unaware of this as well. Thanks for the info!

(You can also get Diet Sprite, which is sugar and caffiene free, as well!)

I feel your pain! On our last cruise (Voyager), hubby and I brought on 3 12-pks of CF Diet Pepsi (I personally hate CF diet coke, for what it's worth). I can't even tell you how many people stopped me and asked where I got it from and if I would be willing to sell them a can.

I felt like a moron schlepping 3 12-pks of pop on the ship, but I was happy I did it.

Thank you. That is all I drink and they never had it so they allowed me to bring my own on board.

Now I understand why I just received this email from them in response to my asking if I can still bring it on board.

From RCCL;

Dear Ms. XXXXXXXX

We apologize for any inconvenience but due to our regulatory and licensing requirements guests are not allowed to bring beverages of any kind onboard for consumption or any other use.

Thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International.

Were you using the soda card? Did they let you have cans using the card? When we sailed on Carnival, they had cf diet coke in the fountain but I discovered that unless you watched them, they tended to pour reg. diet coke instead. For health reasons, we cannot have sugar or caffeine so this is a big issue for us.

massey3,

I did not purchase the soda card, because my understanding was that you could only get fountain drinks with the card. I did not see anywhere that they had CF Diet Coke "on tap." I had to purchase the cans individually, but fortunately I don't drink much anymore so even at $1.50/can (plus gratuity), it didn't add up to much over the course of the week. I don't drink alcohol, so that was my splurge.

I understand the health reasons...same with me. I choose not to consume my calories through soft drinks (I'm overweight) which is why I drink diet. And I gave up caffeine almost two years ago for health reasons. Since I also don't drink coffee or tea (just don't like the taste), I had convinced myself I'd be drinking mostly water on the cruise. It turns out the CF Diet Coke was a nice treat for me to have once a day or so!

We just got off the Rhapsody of the Seas a couple of weeks ago and I took 1-12pk of Caff.Free Coke, and 2-12pks of Caff.Free Pepsi on board. I asked one of the RCI reps. and security reps. at the gangway and they both said that it was ok to bring these beverages. Now maybe they broke company policy but it was their obligation to keep me happy and that I was. icon_smile.gif
