Name question

I booked a room for a friend that is going with us on the cruise with my TA. His name on his drivers license is Larry so that is what I booked him under. Now he tells me on his birth certificate it reads Lawrence which will be what it has to read on his passport. Will there be a problem? I booked ES and I believe you can't change names.

There shouldn't be a problem. Larry is common parlance for Lawrence. If he brings his passport and his DL he will have photo ID with his picture and each version of his name. I can't say with any certitude what will happen but this sounds similar to the name change problem recently married women face and that deals with sir name. Marriage license is all that is needed to resolve that discrepancy. I don't see how any problem would arise with proper ID connecting the two version of a first name.
