ds521 Posted May 25, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2004 We'll be going to Belize on the Explorer 7/4, and wondered if it's still acceptable to use a birth certificate if you don't have a passport?
mdmourges Posted May 25, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I cruised last Aug to Belize on Galaxy (Cel.) and only used my BC. I have since gotten a Passport and I might suggest you get one too just in case you do decide to go somewhere that requires one. It was a very easy process and took less than a month. luv2camp Posted May 25, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I would highly recommend that you review the U.S. Department of State website at http://www.travel.state.gov/passport_services.html This will give you the official list of countries that require passports. We recently were on the Serenade S. Carib itin and was never asked for passport. On CCL Pride Western we did have to show at a few ports. You never know when "the rules" will change...be prepared. CruiseDancer Posted May 25, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 25, 2004 I have been to Belize twice on the Celebrity Galaxy. As it was explained to me (by an RCI person at a "cruise presentation" at my TA's office) when I asked about the need for a passport for Belize, I was told that you don't need it to get between Belize and the cruise ship. However, if something should happen to you in Belize that you would have to leave Belize directly for another country, then you will need a passport. In other words, if you were going to Belize by any other route than a cruise ship, you would need a passport to get in and out. Nancyquilts Posted May 25, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 25, 2004 And if you want a real horror story about the need for a passport, there was a thread on Carnival about a group missing the ship, flying to Cancun, and then crossing the Belize border to catch the ship. Your passport is good for ten years.
