stevedam Posted January 20, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2005 HELP! I'm new at this! I want to book a few excurions at each port. How many do you actually go on? Should I book more than 1 or 2? Any advice would be great! Steve
bruce-r Posted January 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2005 Our family prefers to make our own arrangements and not us the ships excursions. If you are going on the ship's excursions, I would think that one per island would probably be enough, especially for the longer trips to the mayan ruins in Mexico. The cruise line will tell you that most of the excursions will sell out, something I seriously doubt. The only one I would believe would sell out is the swimming with dolphin excursions. Boo's Mom Posted January 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2005 Steve ~ It really depends on how long you are in port. On the Caribbean Islands....the ships are usually there only part of a day. Sure, you could do two....but one would have to be short. On Celebrity, for example.......when you book on their website, it will not let you book more than your "port time" will allow. It will also not allow you to book two that are too close together in time. If you haven't done this "cruising" thing before, I would recommend that you stay with the ship's excursions....until you see how things work. Sometimes a ship has to tender (doesn't dock at the shore)...and it takes a while to transport the passengers over to the land in their lifeboats. This can eat away at your excursion time. Ships will and do leave without passengers. If you are on a ship excursion, it will not leave without you.
Princess-of-Quite-alot Posted January 25, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 25, 2005 I would plan 1 excursion per island, and leave some time for shopping and a drink.....or two. You will not have time to do 2. I have always done excursions on my own...saving much $$$$.....these boards have been invaluable for help as to who, what, where, why, etc. Just ask! :D
