question regarding carry-on baggage for canadians travelling to US

Just wondering if any fellow canadians who recently travelled had any problems taking both their camera and laptop on board the plane; if so, did you have them in their respective cases or did you put them in your backpack/carryon bag. I'm trying to be clear on the new regulations.

I just travelled to and from the States yesterday. I just took just a large laptop bag. I did see people with camera cases in addition to another bag. There was a lot of gatechecking going on, but that was generally of the larger bags. The one thing, OK two, at YYZ that surprised me were - 1) for a carryon, you had to get a coloured tag at the checkin desk and 2) they still had the secondary patdowns after security.

There were hardly any people travelling yesterday, so the only line was at immigration. They even sent me around the secondary screening line. :D

OK, found the official answer. According to CATSA regulations, EITHER the laptop bag OR the camera bag would count as your carryon.
