Need help with held room and TA trying to get it for me.

Tomorrow I am having a conference call between my TA and X. I currently have a room paid in full for my cruise in May but I put a better room on courtesy hold until tomorrow night. He tried to transfer it for me but they would not let him. He said that I have to let them release it and then quickly try to book it? He said it might be a nail biter? Seriously, must it be so difficult? What if I put a deposit on the better room and then transfer it with the form on the celebrity FAQ? Then I cancel the room paid in full or they can move the money over. If I do that I will be owed back $400. Can they still do that less than 90 days out? Sorry if I am confusing.

The TA should be able to change your room if you are booked. They should be able to release the room them apply it to your booking right away. If you are before th 60 day limit then yes you can cancel and rebook. There also might be better benifits (obc and such) for new booking. So either way you should be a winner.

If you have a hold for a cabin thru X you will need to send a fax releasing X and appointing your TA. Ask X to extend the hold to make sure the fax gets there and processed. I had to do this. Chances are you will need to speak with a supervisor to extend the hold...ask nicely and try to explain that sometimes the faxes don't get processed immediately and you don't want to lose the new cabin. They can't disagree because it happens that faxes do get misplaced. I had one cruise booked and decided to switch and got the cabin thru the website for the new sailing. My TA worked out switching the $ from the one booking to the other.

Although it seems like a nail biter I've done the release and catch by the TA a number of times. I can't answer why Celebrity does it this way but what I've done is:

Go to the Celebrity web site and the screen where it allows me to release the room.

Get on the phone with my TA to tell them what I'm doing and ask them to go to the screen where they can catch the cabin.

When they tell me they are there I release it and they catch it.

It has never failed to work.

Best of luck,

Michelle

As far as I know, this will work if the room in question hasn't been waitlisted by a third party.

I did a similar release and rebook, but was cancelling a previous reservation made in USD and rebooking the same cabin in CAD. I was hoping against hope that I would not lose the original cabin, as it was one of the Solstice AQ cabins with the very large deck.

In order to maximize my chances, I had a Celebrity Cruise Specialist (CS) waitlist the room for me on the Celebrity reservations system. He told me that the system would pick up the room as soon as it was released and allocate it to the first waitlist request in the queue (just in case there was more than one). If there were no waitlist requests for that cabin, then it would be returned to inventory and available to anyone logged onto the reservations system.

The Celebrity CS told me that he had no way of knowing if anyone else had waitlisted the room, and although he said such a process was usually successful, he couldn't guarantee absolutely that I would be able to reserve the same cabin.

In my case, the CS created a new reservation, placed a waitlist on the cabin for me, then he cancelled my old reservation. The cabin showed up immediately on my new reservation, as apparently it had not been waitlisted by anyone else.

As I understand it then, if the cabin has been previously waitlisted by anyone else, when you release it, it will not appear as available for your TA to book.

All of this occured before final payment, so I don't know what the issues are after final payment has occurred.

Hi Eleana,

Your right, I never thought about the wait list issue. That could cause it to not be caught by my TA. I guess the reason that has never happened to me is that I reserve a cabin on the personalizer that I want to switch to the night before and then usually do the catch and release the next day. This has worked both before and after final payment. I'm usually just moving to a room I like better or up a category when the prices drop.

Since the cabin was just in the system as available the night before there has never been anyone wait listed on it. Your method seems just a bit more secure than my method. :-)

Mrs. G,

When you reserve a room on the Celebrity system there is an option to cancel the reservation. To release the room you just go through the process. I think (if memory serves me correctly) that it is a two step process. One to cancel and another to verify the cancellation.

Best,

Michelle

I got it...I got it!!! Stateroom #7199 on the Summit to Bermuda. That cruise is lacking in passengers I think because we got an awesome Resident rate (PA) for a total of $1698.XX. I had a conf call with my TA and X. She did it no problem but at first she said that I might not be able to get the promo code (resident rate) since I was canceling and then rebooking. Luckily, that rate was still available today. Then her system told her that we needed to book 5 people into that room. I told her I was able to book with only 2 and she tried it and it worked. Thanks for all the help. I can't wait to enjoy my corner AFT Veranda. I have not told DH about this --I am going to surprise him.

I gave up a CC room but I am sure this is more than worth it.

I guess I should make sure they have a note not to upgrade us huh?

My TA just called me to just "remind" me that since I have an FV with only 2 people that if they have a group of 5 they can bump me (since the room is really for 5). I didn't see that anywhere when I booked it myself nor did I have any trouble booking it for just two people. I did have him put that note that I did not wish to be upgraded but I am wondering if the "bumping" due to a larger group happens frequently?

For what it is worth, my ship is not approaching full.

One used to "lie" to get those cabin and 'fill it" with two other family member names. Restrictions have eased since they know that its more often than not a cabin for two.

There are others beside yours to accommodate the 5 scenario on the aft which is an occupancy stretch for any aft and one bathroom. Keep the faith.
