Best way to travel from St Thomas to Trunk Bay

The ferry to St. John runs from Charlotte Amalie, by the cruise ship docks, and from Red Hook o the east end. It may actually be easier to take the dollar bus to Red Hook and catch the ferry there - only 30 minutes to Cruz Bay on St. John. You can look around Cruz Bay a little, or just hop a cab to Trunk Bay from there. Some cab drivers will take you to Hawksnest, Cinnamon, and Maho bays in addition to Trunk for a set price for the day. Also, you can rent a car in Cruz Bay and do your own beach tour for not a huge amount of money.

There are 2 places where you can get a ferry. Either in Charlotte Amaile (closest to the cruise ship) or Red Hook. Personally, I would travel to Red Hook. The reason being that Red Hook has a ferry going out about every 30-60 minutes where Charlotte Amaile has a ferry going out either every other hr or every 2-3 hrs depending on how many ferries are running that day. Red Hook ferry ride is 15-20 minutes where Charlotte Amaile is 45 minutes. Grab a taxi (right at the dock), go to Red Hook, catch the ferry and enjoy yourself. It will also give you the opportunity to take a tour of the island. Just make sure you get a ferry back form St. John at least 2 hours before the ship leaves. The reason being is that coming back to town there is going to be rush hour traffic going back to the ship. I hope this helps!!

Yup. This is how we did it. And how we'll be doing it in a few days. :D

Need to add...3 years ago when we did this...it was also rush hour for all the locals working on St. Johns that take the ferry back to St. Thomas. They were pushing their way onto the ferry. Not a pleasant experience...but Trunk Bay is worth the effort!
