Don't play the last night of a cruise!

Advice to all: DO NOT GAMBLE ON THE LAST NIGHT OF THE CRUISE. Lock away the cash, give it to your spouse, give it to Guest Services and pay it toward it your account...whatever you do, stay out of the casino!

The most dangerous thing for a gambler is to not care if you win or lose. On the last night, I saw so many people just dump money for no reason than to do so. I'm sure if you ask the casino which nights are the most profitable, it will be the last night of each cruise. I went down with a bit of $, played a bit, and lost a bit, then hung out just watched people dump hundreds at a time, and in one extreme case, thousands.

This happens to me on my Vegas trips as well, so it's not a coincidence. Seems to make sense that when you start on a trip, you go in with the best of intentions, to play well, to play within your account restrictions, etc. Then, as the trip progresses you get looser and looser until the last night, when all hell breaks loose.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO relin711: I don't find any correlation between winning and on a specific night in the casino. I almost never win on the first night. I have won plenty of times on the last night. Truth be told, I have even lost some on the last night. However, there is no correlation between winning and connecting it to any specific night. Winning or losing could occur on any given night.

I am delighted to see as many people as possible go into the casino and donate lots of their money to the cruise line.......and the more they donate......the cheaper the fares will be for those of us that don't give at the casinos......;)

I agree with Casino Player, that there is no correlation between which day of a cruise ..... or a trip to Vegas ....... as to whether one wins or loses in the casino.

I have had times where I won at least some EVERY day on a cruise or Vegas visit, some times when I have won a good amount, and also have had times where I could not win a thing.

Gambling "luck" is nothing more than being in the right place at the right time. There may be an element of skill involved for card players, but even the best of them have their losses.

Go to the casino with the amount of money you feel you can afford to lose. Have fun trying to win, and if you do win, take the money and run to your cabin, put it in the safe, and take it home with you!!!

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO JLC@SD: Again, there is no correlation between casinos winning money from cruisers and price of tickets for cruise. You would have more money to spend on other things during the cruise. However, if you are winning in the casino then you could also enjoy more on the cruise if you wish.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO flamomo: I see you agree with me. Also, if you play a casino game that has little house edge that would help too. The idea is to whittle down the edge the house has. Make the best bets possible. You don't wish to give away more of an edge than you have to.

Going to the casino with money that you can afford to lose is a good way of gambling. An aquaintence of mine once told me only use money above and beyond that you need for everyday living. Also, know the game you are playing well. If not you may as well give your money away. Cards don't have anymore skill than any other game.

I know there is no direct correlation, as long as you control your emotions. The danger for many people is that they get to a certain point where losing doesn't hurt, or they don't care.

All I'm saying is that I suspect it is easier for people to get to that emotional point on the last night of a trip.

Trying to regain losses is what you are pointing out. This is a major sign of problem gambling. People who fall into this trap should not ever be in a casino. Casino player has it right with regards to the house edge. Do your homework and play the games with the best odds for the player. A pass line bet with single odds has a house edge of less than 1%. Betting red or black on roulette gives the house a 5% edge. This means you are likely to loose your money 5 times faster than the pass line bet. Then consider slot machines with a house edge of 10-20% on average. With a decision every 5 seconds. Is it any wonder why they keep building casinos.

Actually I go by the advice DO NOT GAMBLE ON ANY NIGHT OF THE CRUISE.......

They didn't build Vegas on the winners. Every bet is a sucker bet. In my mind it isn't gambling.... it's donating. ;)

I agree. It's probably a combination of chasing losses along with the "Eff it, I'm on vacation, I've already spent $5K, what's another $500?" mentality. Bad combo.

On Freedom of the seas, it was like 2am on the last night. The roulette dealer announced Last roll of the cruise and I saw a guy hit his # for about 3k. The Pit boss threw his clip board on the ground and started cussing. It was pretty funny!!! I never seen a pit boss show that kind of emotion.

I wish it was me, lol.

Early in the cruise, many people are to some degree aware of the concept of budgeting their money to make it last five or seven days. If you've set a loss limit, you can reconcile yourself to it by saying, I'll be back tomorrow. By the last day, that goes out the door, and what they're thinking of is that they won't have a chance to do this again for months or years to come.

I can't agree with the OP. I've won (big) on the last day/night on my 2nd Glory cruise, the 1st Legend cruise, the Dawn cruise & most recently on the Triumph. Also have been lucky on the FIRST day on the 1st Glory cruise, the Noordam and the Miracle. I think it's just a matter of luck.

MUHAHAHAHAHA!

Sounds like "someone" took a bath on the cruise. I hope they got a loss statement from the casino manager! :p

Now not to encourage any degenerate gamblers , but a few years ago on the old Westerdam , I wandered into the casino on the last night of the cruise , put 3 dollars in a red white and blue sevens slot machine and won $5k ! (Red,White,Blue sevens , in order)

The casino people didn't seem to mind . They gave me quite a stack of hundreds and they told me it happens every 2 weeks or so. I frankly , was amazed.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO NicoLee: I was on a cruise and was rolling at the craps table. Everyone else left and I had a monster roll that they had to keep the casino open well past the closing time.

To those who say you should never play in a casino because it's all just a way to get your money, I can say the same about many other things on cruise ships and life in general. Alcohol? Look at what they charge for an ounce of vodka. A "sucker bet" indeed. Same for a can of soda. Ask anyone in the food service industry how much they make on a cup of coffee. Talk about a house advantage! To say nothing of the amounts spent on cruises on "shopping". But people want to do it - the price is not the important factor.

In the end, it's all a mater of what YOU want to spend your money on.

Good luck and Shalom. Andy.

Great point. $150 for a cruise massage I can get at home for $60. I can take that same$150, Play a hand of Blackjack with the chance of winning $225. We've all got our priorities on what to do with OUR money. I don't understand why people who say "never gamble" are even posting on this board.

The last night is no different than any other night. Same chance of winning or losing every night. In January, won $7000 first night and $8800 last night, won some, lost some other nights.

Thanks, Mom.

Problem is that if I give my cash to my spouse, she'll gamble it at Let it Ride.

Couldn't disagree with this more!~ I am a consistent loser, be it first, middle or end of the cruise! BUT...the only time I did win big was ON THE LAST DAY!
