confused-does day trip to Cairo mean missing Suez Canal transit?

Hi,

My husband and I are very excited to be booked on P&O’s Oriana world cruise. We are confused about the Egypt portion of our cruise. According to the brochure we stop in Sharm el Sheikh for a full day (7th Dec) the stop in Suez early 8th then daytime transit through the suez canal and stop in Port Said early evening (8th) to “embark tour only” before heading on to Athens (10th). This is my first and probably only trip to Egypt and I want to make the most of it. I have read lots of recommendations for overnights to Cairo and excellent private Ramses tours from Port Said. However unless I am misunderstanding something the only option we have to see the pyramids/Cairo is a day trip starting from Suez and ending at Port Said and that means we will miss the entire Suez canal transit L Is this correct? Does anyone have any experience of this scenario or any suggestions for how we can do both? It seems Sharm el Sheikh is too far away for a trip t the pyramids from there and it is best for diving excursions.

Any info/advice you can give me will be very gratefully received. Thank you.

Cheers

Zsazsa
