CruisingGoddess Posted February 28, 2010 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Hi, everyone! I'm looking to purchase 2 different kinds of vests and was hoping for recommendations on what vests to get and where to get the best deal... 1. Inflatable/deflatable snorkel vest: The kind that keeps you stay afloat if you get tired but not a life vest. You can easily inflate on your own and would pack well. 2. Swim vest: My husband cannot swim but I'd like him to be able to float near me while I snorkel so I'm looking for a swim vest that can keep a non-swimmer upright in the water. Thanks in advance! MargaritaPlease Posted March 2, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2010 Here's a basic snorkel vest. Not sure what you want for your husband -sounds like a regular PFD. Maybe this vest? Maybe just a wetsuit which gives both warmth and buoyancy?
Putterdude Posted March 3, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2010 I am not sure that this is much of a difference between them. My suggestion would be to go to a dive shop and get some information from them. As I hadn't snorkeled for some 50 years I did purchase one from a dive shop just to have it as a safety blanket this winter in the Caribbean but frankly didn't use it. You should be able to find a good one at about the $40 price point.
