Alaska with 2 and 5 year olds

We're heading to Alaska with two of our three kids (the third has opted to stay with Grandma/Grandpa).

I've read that Skagway is a port that there's not much to do in the town - so it's best to book an excursion through the ship. We have picked out an excursion that we like but then we noticed that each person is required to have a passport. Well....the kids don't have passports so we're thinking that we may opt to have the kids play at Kids Crew that day, but we're not sure.

As for other ports - does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations for excursions that you took the kids on?

Thanks for any help.

It is a short walk from the ship into the very small town. The National Park Service visitor's center has a small display and free walking tour maps. I actually think that small children would enjoy walking around instead of a long train ride or some of the other excursions.

You might check with the cruise line but this is what the U.S. government page says about land travel into Canada with minors-

Note: Beginning June 1, 2009, U.S. and Canadian citizen children under age 16 arriving by land or sea from contiguous territory may also present an original or copy of his or her birth certificate, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad, a Naturalization Certificate, or a Canadian Citizenship Card.
