Single Cruiser Posted March 7, 2010 Author #26 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Exactly. £ is low so I don't want to spend € on an Italian brand do I! ;) Italy has costa. Germany has Aida. UK has P&O within the Carnival brand.
MattyBarlow Posted March 8, 2010 #27 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Also remember Carnival have Costa in the Med offering what you are now suggesting. Dai Does Costa really offer the British pax what they want though?

tom_uk Posted March 8, 2010 #29 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Didn't Queen Victoria do a few Med fly-cruises in her first season? Cunard seem not to have repeated that.

Which is why my original question on the reasons why and luggage restrictions. I know that when I'm travelling and staying overnight in hotels before big customer meetings the suit etc is in the suit carrier and not folded into a suitcase! They are repeating it this year - at some point she goes to the med & does a number of fly cruises (I think with barcelona & venice departures) September is the repo cruise to Venice http://book.cunard.co.uk/find/pb/cruiseDetailsItinerary.do?ship=&subTrade=&date=0910&duration=&orderBy=&pageOffset=1&voyageCode=V016 Coming back in November from Rome http://book.cunard.co.uk/find/pb/cruiseDetailsItinerary.do?ship=QV&subTrade=&date=1110&duration=&orderBy=&pageOffset=1&voyageCode=V023 & Cunard is positioned as being more formal than P&O

Of course, it has to be said that Cunard also sells to americans. I have a feeling that the company see these cruises as competing with Celebrity/Princess, who are doing similar itineraries in the Med at aorund the same time. Berserker Posted March 8, 2010 #33 Share Posted March 8, 2010 Didn't Queen Victoria do a few Med fly-cruises in her first season? Cunard seem not to have repeated that. My take on this is that they wanted Victoria out of the way for the final season of RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 and the introduction of MV Queen Elizabeth later this year. There is also the point that Americans fly over for Europe and like port intensive cruises. The idea of a port intensive fly cruise leaves me cold. I'm hoping QV will remain ex-Southampton for at least part of the year - she is too good to waste on fly-cruises.
