San francisco airport

I would avoid airport stores... the rent is really high... they appeal to tourist flying out as a last chance for wine before boarding the plane...

For low to medium priced wines, consider Cost Plus (http://www.worldmarket.com), less than 5 blocks from the pier at Bay and Taylor... They will have lots of wine from $5.00 to $50.00. There web sit lists some of the wines available.

There are better wine stores between the airport and the pier... but Cost Plus is in the top 15% for variety, price, and eclectic selection.

Other options near the pier are Trader Joe's at 401 Bay St. (Corner Mason) or Safeway at 350 Bay St (Corner Powell.) Of the two, I find that Trader Joe's has the better (and cheaper) selection of wine. Both are about four blocks from Pier 35. Also, depending on where your arriving flight lands, you may be in the wrong concourse to reach gate 85 or it may be a trek even if you are flying UA because it is at the end of the concourse.

Cost+ often has good coupons on their website that may save you a few $$. I agree with others that Trader Joe has a wider range, everything from "Two Buck Chuck" to $100/bottle. However, both have limited selections compared to a wine shop or even a liquor store or supermarket. It's what their buyers can get at a good price with a few house labels (many surprisingly good). So, if you're after a specific wine it will be hit and miss at both stores unless it's mass-market (Callaway, Bogle, etc).
