Old Belize River Wildlife Rafting

I went on the NCL Old Belize River Wildlife Rafting tour last week. It was a great experience. The raft is more like an open pontoon boat with fiberglass bench seats. If you want to be on the water with little noise or speed so you can enjoy the scenery/wildlife this is the excursion for you. We saw 2 troops of howler monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, bats, 3 species of herons, kiskadees, flycatchers, jays, and other birds.

This trip was in the morning. We rode a big tour bus upriver, then got on the pontoon/raft to move downriver. At the end of the river journey we met a group that had just finished their lunch after either the zoo or Altun Ha AM tour. They took the pontoon/raft further downriver for their tour.

I suspect most of the wildlife were having siesta by the time they were on the river, so an AM river experience is certainly preferred.

The guides were well versed in finding the wildlife, pointing out different trees, identifying fauna and flora.

This is a great tour for nature lovers.
