karjoe Posted March 10, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2010 Hello all, Can someone please explain to me what the different cabin catorgories represent - I am fully aware there are many, but can't seem to find out what they all mean - where could I find this information...cruise critic of course!!!:):):) Thanks in advance for your help. Hobiecat01 Posted March 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2010 I'll take a stab... The different categories are for different types of cabins. That said, the categories (and prices) differ based on: Cabin Type - inside, oceanview (porthole), balcony, Jr. suite, suite Cabin Location - Forward, Aft, High, Low, Midships Prices vary due to all of the above types and locations. For instance, since the motion of the ship is felt more at the aft and forward areas of the ship, those cabins are less expensive than comparable ones at the center of the ship. Balcony cabins cost more than oceanview cabins. The price variance for cabin size is self explanitory, more room cost more. A Jr. Suite at 287 sq ft is of course more expensive than a D1 at 182 sq ft. Both are balcony cabins with the Jr. Suite being a slightly wider cabin (by about 3 ft approx.) RCL has a lot of categories. Some lines have fewer, some have more. Frankly it depends on what the lines believe they can get for sometimes the tiniest differential in any of the above types and locations. This is not the most definitive explanation but I hope you can get the point. The most inportant thing is to get aboard and enjoy your cruise!! ------------------------ Sea ya! karjoe Posted March 10, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted March 10, 2010 Ron / Lee, Really appreciate your information - you have answered a my next question aswell....the reason why it is so expensive in the middle of the ship (Deck 11 11252), although this cabin looks really 'small' compared to others - it was really expensive and we are right in the corner where the 'hump' starts to pretrude, so we have a kind of restricted view when looking to the right....:( Your right though....just enjoy being on board - only cruised with Princess before (X2 last year)...so we are new to all this cruising, but enjoying it at the same time..:):):) Thanks again for your information.. chinaski77 Posted March 11, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 11, 2010 what exactly is this 'hump'? also, will it affect room 11700? thanks.
karjoe Posted March 11, 2010 Author #5 Share Posted March 11, 2010 If you look at the ship side on, you will see there two areas that pretrude out - the hump is the 'word' that has been used a couple of times on this site. Basically it will effect you if you have ocean balcony view and you are located right at the angle where the 'hump' starts - like we are. We have been booked since last August(ish) and we were not told at anytime this cabin had a restricted view:(:(
karjoe Posted March 11, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted March 11, 2010 Sorry Chinaski - I've just checked your cabin location and you should have no problems at all :):), your well away from the 'hump'

Joe Hi Joe! Glad I could help out. As a former Princess cruiser (Seas Princess once and the Grand twice), I will be interested in what you think of the Oasis. We loved Princess but decided to try RCL and just never went back. Not that Princess was bad, just that RCL was so good! Have a GREAT cruise!!! ------------------------- Sea ya!
