Orient Bay Vacation Rental Recommendations

We've been to St. Maarten twice on cruises (and one more time coming up in June) and really enjoy the island, so we've decided to stay for a week in January 2011. We would like to find a reasonably priced vacation rental near Orient Bay. There are a lot of condos/apartments in that area, and wondered if anyone had recommendations as to what's good (and also what's not).

It will be myself and my husband only, and we're not fussy but would like a reasonably nice place to stay to celebrate our 20th Anniversary.

Thanks for your help!

and you should find a group of hotels and resorts with prices. I enjoyed Green Cay Village which is above the beach with your own private dipping pool and full kitchen. There are several others and the prices for a single cabin are fair and there's always Club Orient.

We're really looking for a cottage or apartment to rent for the week rather than a resort. We've found quite a few online, but were hoping someone could give us the benefit of their actual experience in one or more of them.

Carino that rents places by the week. Also look up the St. Martin site and there should be several rental companies listed. Depending on the size and location it can run from about $1000 to several $Thousand .

In January you should be able to find a basic room with kitchenette for about $120 - $150 per night. We have rented in the Orient area in Jan/Feb for several years and seek out low cost places so we can stay longer. A travel agent who specializes in that area helped us a lot in our early years. If you talk to Sandy Molloy at stmartin-stmaartentravelspecialists (dot com) she will give you an idea of the cost and availability.

This February we spent 23 days in the Oyster Pond area and drove to Orient Beach nearly every day. We were able to find a very basic but clean room for 56 euro per night. There are other places in that same area beginning at $58 per night, it just takes a lot of digging on the internet. We love to cruise, but love our St. Martin land vacations more.
