knarf Posted March 14, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2010 We will be traveling by train and staying at the Hampton Inn Convention Center precruise. We are wondering if there is public transport close by to the French Quarter? Thank you Hi Welshcouple, We will be staying at the Hampton Inn on April 8-9-10 precruise. If you go to this site, scroll down a little and look to the left near the bootom and you will see the Convention Center Blvd and the Hampton is across from the Center, I think about near Triangle and Convention Center intersection. If you look you will see the red street car just below the convention center. This is the Riverfront Streetcar and will take you along the river right over to the French Quarter-you'll also pass the Harrah's Casino near the Canal Street stop. Now ,how to get to the street car stop near our hotel?? .It looks like all we have to do is JUMP Over the convention Center Building and get on the streetcar:D There must be an easy way to get to the stop near the convention center as this has to be a popular stop..can we walk thru the center ? we'll see. I was in New Orleans last year and the streetcars were a great way to get around. I bought a one day pass for $5.00 and you can ride as much as you want and on any street car. Have you been in NO before ? The site is www.mapneworleans.com/pdf/fq_map.pdf Any questions, just ask. Knarf (Frank backwards)

knarf Posted March 15, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2010 Hi Welshcouple. Here are some good sites that I have used for my research of New Orleans. Maybe they might be helpful to you. When are you going to NO ? A nice ride is on the St Charles Street car all the way to the end, get of and get right back on for the trip back. I would guess it is a 45 minute ride each way. Goes thru a very nice area of old homes, universities, a large zoo, etc etc. You can get on and off as much as you want. But each time you get on it will cost $1.25, that is why you want to get a day pass for $5.00. http://www.frommers.com/destinations/neworleans/0020020766.html http://frenchquarter.com/ http://www.neworleansonline.com/ Click on the top under THINGS TO DO AND SEE and also click under TRAVEL TOOLS http://www.norta.com/ along the left hand side are go places to read. We are wondering if there is public transport close by to the French Quarter? Thank you Hi Welshcouple and Knarf, Come out of the Hampton Inn and take a left (towards downtown) go four blocks to Julia St. You'll see an elevated crosswalk. Take it and right on the other side you'll find the Julia St. stop. Cost is $1.25 pp and you'll need exact change as the conductor doesn't carry change. Hope this helps, Jorge

The stop after Julia is Thalia St. and that's where the streetcar turns around. Hope you enjoy New Orleans and come back often. Jorge

I had gone to that web site, before, but I couldn't find where I can buy the tickets..probably right there in front of me. Thanks again, Frank oops there it is !! 1-day VisiTour pass ($5.00) Available for the current day on all buses and streetcars. Purchased through farebox on buses and streetcars. There are no two day passes and 2 one day passes are cheaper than a three day pass. I doubt this is a complete list of where you can buy the three day passes: http://www.norta.com/passes/buypasses.php Your hotel might be willing to obtain passes longer than one day for you.
