Caye Caulker, Belize worth it?

Looked at the excursions for Belize and thought the Thriller speed boat to Caye caulker looked like fun. Has anyone done this recently? How is the beach in Caye Caulker? Some other reviews have said NO BEACH just rocks and murky water. Thanks

We took a city water taxi to Caye Caulker last year and loved the place. Funky little bars, restaurants, motels. No cars. Really neat place. We walked to the end of the island to "The Split", which was great swimming. No beach to speak of, just a little strip of sand with incredibly beautiful water.

We enjoyed our boat ride there and back...and talk about cheap!

I'm only sorry that I'll be in Belize next week for a limited time on the Grand. Otherwise, I'd head back to Caulker.

Nanette is correct. It's a quaint, interesting and funky place but there's no soft-sand beach. The "roads" are all dirt and you get around on a golf cart, which you can rent very reasonably. It is not glitzy, not built up, and there isn't a whole lot to do but it is charming and interesting. It's pretty much 'undiscovered' and you're not going to go to find too many unspoiled places like this in the Caribbean. I loved it and would go back in a heartbeat.
