Arriving a few days before our cruise departs. Our first time to San Fransisco so we are going to take in the sites before our cruise departs, we will have 2 full days prior to embarkation day.

Any suggestions for hotel?

Liquor and wine store outlets?

Sightseeing suggestions?

thank you

We stayed at Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf (got a great rate with Hotwire). Grocery store with wine 1.5 blocks walk. We emptied our rolling carry-on bag and took it with us to grocery. Fisherman's Wharf is in walking distance. From there you can board all sorts of tours: from buses, to trolleys, to bicycles, to little Go cars. There is a bus stop outside the hotel that will take you to other parts of the city. A concierge at the hotel was most helpful.

---1/2 Day trip to Muir Woods/Sausalito...huge trees and a cute seaside town.

---All Day trip to Napa/Sonoma wine country...visit 3 different wineries.

---Very long, but wonderful day trip to Monterey, Carmel and Pebble Beach. See amazing aquarium, cute shops, and drive thru some beautiful scenery. Keep your eyes open for some herds of tiny deer on Pebble Beach golf course.

Let's go the other way around. First off, what do you like to do? That would help as far as sightseeing suggestions.

As far as liquor and wine stores; if you stay near Fisherman's Wharf, between Trader Joe's, Safeway and Cost Plus you should be satiated. It's also not a bad area as far as hotels are concerned unless you are chronic shopaholics. If that is the case, then Union Square may be your best bet. There is a Whole Foods near that area which has a good wine selection and there is also Bristol Farms in the San Francisco Centre.

If you have two days the Citypass is a great deal and gives you access to many of the city's major attractions. Grayline tours runs a Hop-on Hop-off bus which sells extensions to Muir Woods and the Napa Valley. SF Muni also has a day pass for $11 for all the city's busses, streetcars and yes, cablecars. The best prices for wines are at Bevmo (you may check thier website for locations) or if you have a particular winery you like, consider taking a day to tour the Napa or Sonoma Valleys. All wineries have wine clubs which are inexpensive to join and offer good discounts, and great discounts on 'only at the winery' specials.

There are many excellent resturants in town, once you decide where you are staying, I'll be glad to recommend one or two nearby your hotel.

Lastly, there are two shows you might wish to take in if you have time. Beach Blanket Babalon at Club Fugazi is a San Francisco tradition. The show is refreshed quarterly to reflect not only San Francisco traditons but current events too. Cocktail service is offereed at the show. The second show is Tina and Tony's wedding at Swiss Louis Resturant on Pier 39. (located just next to the Cruise Terminal on Pier 35). The show includes an italian dinner and is zany and fun.
