RCI ship dock in Maui and rental car?

Hello, does anyone know where does RCI ships dock in Maui and what are the rental car options? We are cruising on Rhapsody of Seas on Apr 27th, 2010. I have heard that rental car drop off is at 4pm, is that right?

The ship docks (or tenders) in Lahaina. You will have to call a rental agency and ask for a ride to their rental facility as it is not right in town where you get off the tender.

Thank you. Yes, it does tender at Lahaina and there is a Dollar car rental agency which does close at 4. So we have decided to rent the car the first morning and return next day at 4. We will then take a cab to and from Old Lahaina Luau which should not be very expensive as it is a mile or two from ship pier.

With your ship tendered at Lahaina, you will rent from the west side locations, either in Ka'anapali or those for the West Maui Airport (designator JHM) south of Kapalua or at a couple of places in Lahaina (Hertz has a location on Papalaua).

 

Whatever you do, do not, under any circumstances, try to rent from the Kahului airport locations (desginator OGG). Kahului is nearly an hour one way from Lahaina and no company will shuttle from Kahului to the tender pier. It's not reasonable in terms of fuel, time, personnel, etc. Plus, who wants to spend 2 hours of a port day just getting and returning a car.
