Hi, I can't seem to get anyone to answer me on the St. Thomas board, so I'm trying here! My fiance and I are getting married at our stop in St. Thomas. Afterward we rented a chartered boat called Island Girl to go snorkling. The captain and his wife are the owners and they are the 2 to take you out. They normally take 6 people, so we had to pay for 6 slots to make it private, about $425. My question is, is it proper to tip them when we're done, and if so how much? Thanks a lot!

On Rumbaba, I not only tipped his first mate, but the owner Capt Bobby, to. He certainly didn't refuse it.:)

There's no standard as in restaurants. I tip between five and ten dollars per crew member, depending on length, number of souls on board (read cattle boat:rolleyes:) and quality of service.

Recently at both St Kitts and Curacao I tipped the first mates $20, but both instances were truly extraordinary.

We have used Mike and his Island Girl twice. Great experience both times. Both times we have tipped both Mike and the first mate.

Thanks for the reply! Would you mind giving a round about amount? How was the experience??
