matsitter Posted April 17, 2010 Author #51 Share Posted April 17, 2010 Yes, you could use your spinning shoes on the Oasis bikes. I found them to be in pretty good shape (should be as they are only 6 months old). You'll get a heart monitor also and they track it on the screens up front so you always know where you are. Very nice addition. Enjoy your trip. I am very jealous to have not stayed on board forever!
miaminurse Posted April 17, 2010 #52 Share Posted April 17, 2010 Awesome!!! That sounds great. Thanks for the response. I am sure I will not want to get off at the end of the week....especially since we will be without our kids for a whole week!! (Love them, but a little break from a chatty 6 year old and a non-stop 19 month old is a nice treat)!
cicfam Posted April 18, 2010 #53 Share Posted April 18, 2010 Just Returned Yesterday from 4/10-4/17 Oasis My family and I (10 and 12 year olds) just returned yesterday - thought I'd share some opinions: 1. Ship: Amazing, unique, breathtaking - everything you've read is true! 2. Embarkation: Easy - less than 15 minutes for check-in. 3. Disembarkation: Complicated, crowded, lengthy. Guests leave ship according to a number assigned by stateroom location. Unless you are one of those who carry own luggage off ship (which I'd highly recommend!), count on 30-45 mins to get off ship. 4. Room Location: Boardwalk Balcony: Amazing! We were 3rd from aft on 10th floor. Great ocean views and perfect Aqua Theatre views. ABSOLUTELY NOT SOUNDPROOF: YOU WILL HEAR NOISE FROM AQUA THEATRE AND OTHER SHOWS, which could be problematic if you go to sleep early. 5. Room Size: EXTREMELY SMALL! Much smaller than other cruise lines we've expreienced (Disney, Carnival), and you will feel it! When couch pulled out to beds, little or no ability to move around room, and can't get to balcony without waking whomever is sleeping on pullouts. Shower will produce claustrophobia in you even if never experienced before - it is a cylindrical structure which you step into and have minimal space to move once inside - akin to a vertical MRI machine! TERRIBLE! 6. Dining: Overall impression was of a crew still learning what to do and surprisingly rusty and inexperienced. DO NOT CHOOSE TO EAT BREAKFAST IN MAIN DINING ROOM UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND 1.5-2 HOURS WAITING FOR YOUR FOOD TO ARRIVE, AND BY A STAFF WHO ARE INDIFFERENT TO YOUR EXPERIENCE. There are many other venues which offer a better breakfast experience. 7. Food Quality: Poorest on any cruise ship I've been on - MUCH POORER QUALITY AND VARIETY THAN DISNEY! Very surprised by this. Some selections were similar in taste to frozen food! 8. Activities/Entertainment: Great variety. POOR in terms of being child- oriented: trivia games, for example, are cutthroat and attended by very intelligent adults who are out to WIN and will quote to you how often they have won! Do not expect consolation prizes or other acknowledgments of your/your child's participation (also, do not expect many kids onboard) Fantastic entertainment: Aqua Theatre show was AMAZING, followed by Hairspray, Frozen in Time, Come Fly Away, and Beatlemania. Did not see comedian but heard he was great. Would highly recommend attending the IMPROV shows - they are so funny! 9. Customer Service : HORRENDOUS - WORST WE'VE SEEN ON ANY CRUISE LINE. We had A/C problem on day 1 and day 2: left endless unreturned phone messages for many people - ultimately found 1 who was helpful - but asked for compensation and RCCL Corporate ultimately decided there was "no proof that the A/C problem was caused by them." YIKES - be prepared to chase down staff when/if problems arise and prepare for a credit card dispute once you return home - document all contacts with RCCL staff, as they will forget them! 10. CROWDS: I had read many posts in this forum which stated that you will not experience the crowds despite 6000+ passengers being onboard. WE STRONGLY DISAGREE: CROWDS EVERYWHERE - especially when trying to get an elevator (despite there being 24!), get into a dining room, find a table in a dining venue, get into an entertainment venue, etc. VERY POOR CROWD CONTROL BY RCCL - THEY NEED TO LEARN CROWD MINIMIZATION PROCEDURES, AND UNTIL THEY DO, EXPECT YOUR EXPERIENCE TO BE AFFECTED BY IT. These are the main areas I recall being comment-worthy! We did have an overall great trip, although we would not choose RCCL for our next. Hope this is helpful! __________________ cicfamView Public ProfileFind all posts by cicfamAdd cicfam to Your Contacts
xcomet Posted April 20, 2010 #54 Share Posted April 20, 2010 Park Cafe in Central Park is NOT the same as what they have on the promenade on the Freedom class ships, there is no place like Park Cafe on any of the Freedom ships. Did you not notice that Cafe Promenade and Sorrentos Pizza were also on the ship? Those are the same places that are on the Freedom Class ships. You cannot get a made-to-order salad/bagels, or even anything they served for breakfast that they served in the Cafe on the Freedom class ships either. There are plenty of free activities - including the ice carving! Gym classes have NEVER been free! There are a limited amount of them that are, same with the Sauna - except for on the Voyager class ships. The ice skating rink is also not ALWAYS open on Freedom class ships- there are always designated times for everyone to skate, and it was at least everyday that they had a time. I cannot believe you would say that this ship was not entertaining, did you stay in your cabin the entire time? There was soo much to do and see - my family of 22 couldn't even get it all done! Hopefully your complaints about the Casino aren't that you lost money - really is that Royal Caribbean's fault? The Casino was HUGE, beautiful and lots of fun! Whether you won or not. My only complaint, as it is with EVERY ship - the smoking and non-smoking sides (whats the point, there isn't a wall up to separate it?) You might want to check out the prices on Oasis, when Allure comes out - prices do NOT drop. I've already checked, unless you wait until Sept 2011 - prices slightly drop but no drastic drop in price. What would you expect for the zipline? something that took you around the ship? Just be amazed that they could even get a zipline on the ship... Prices are posted right in front of you for coffee at the Mondo shop - if you don't realize that, you must be blind. Free coffee is ALWAYS in Cafe Promenade on all Royal Ships in Voyager class and above. The carousel worked the entire time on my cruise in March - no problems there and it was a lot of fun. Looks like you may have just had some bad luck with your cruise, maybe try it again and it will be better. I had an amazing time on the Oasis and would do it again in a heartbeat as well, as would the rest of my family.... :) Hi Diamond , Be calm, be happy, just opinions, we should all be used to that in the good old USA!!! I am happy for you and the fam, that you enjoyed it. You know that song " To Each His Own", well maybe showing my age! LOL . Oh and yes freedom class had and still does have lots of free cross trainer, stretching, ab classes, and the like. I know because I would take them everyday( usually at some horrible time, 730am or 530p )! Oh and read my post again, I think you lumped a few posts together when you replied! Still love the freedom class ships!!!! Just sayin!!!

muffyn Posted May 17, 2010 #56 Share Posted May 17, 2010 Spinning Class sign up is definitely in the gym and no place else. I got on the boat at 11 and signed up by 12:30 and the list was half full. Relative to paying for class, I have always payed extra for spinning so it was anticipated. They do give you a discount if you take three or more classes.. ok I just gotta ask :D why would someone pay to peddle a bike? can't you just do this on your own?
