Carnival Splendor Embarkation

I was hoping to get some info. about the embarkation process in Long Beach. We have sailed from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale many times but never from the West Coast. From what I have read - instead of one big boarding line we will be assigned a "zone boarding number" based on when our luggage is dropped off???? Is this correct or did I misunderstand the posts? TIA.

Last June we stayed at the Crowne Plaza and did not check out of the hotel until almost 12:00. The shuttle service had already ended but since the front desk had misunderstood me the previous day when I stated we were sailing on Carnival not Royal, they made a special trip. We were at the pier and on the ship by 1:30. It was very painless compared to us sailing out of NY. :)
