norwegian smoke

Recommended Posts

OP.. generally on NCL ships the smoking areas outside are on the Port side. This is true usually of all decks except the jogging track, whatever deck that might be for the ship. As far as inside public spaces, the only place I can think of is the casino, which I do have to say, even as a smoker, it can get a bit too smokey for me at times. Some NCL ships have a cigar bar which has a completely enclosed cigar smoking area. As others have said all staterooms are available to be smoked in as well as a passangers balcony. Other than that, unless I am just completely forgetting some area, the ship is a non-smoking area. I believe you will find the same smoking policies for all mass market lines with the exception of one and that is X I believe, but just can't remember 100% for sure, and I think thier ships are all smoke free. NCL's POA also has a very restrictive smoking policy, but my understanding is that has to do with it having to comply with HI's restrictive smoking policy.

Maybe I don't read your post correctly...but are you saying that the indoor bars and discos etc are smoke free? That would be what I am looking for.

I love the fact that most of the bars on the NCL ships are smokefree. After a lot of Carnival cruises, where most of the bars allow smoking, the freedom to enjoy the entertainment all over the ship was a delight to me.

Virginia, who hates smoke.

I think I have just permanently jumped ship from Carnival to NCL:)

I remember one time in Lake Tahoe I was so horrible.. I was sitting at a WoF machine and had been there an hour or longer.. and a lady came and sat at the machine right next to me while I was smoking and turned to me and said.. "Can't you just not smoke while I am sitting here?". I told her if she wanted to give me the $500.00 I had lost in this machine I would be glad to get up and leave her to it.. and went right back to smoking. LOL. Mind you there had to be 20 WoF machines right in this area and she and I were the only ones on them.. She could have sat anywhere.. oh well.. 8-)

OHHHH I love WoF machines, there was one at WinStar in OK but they removed it, one of the big ones where we could all sit and lose our money as a family :-)

When we got to our cabin on the Pearl, it smelled like an ash tray. We let them know and they cleaned it again. It still smelled like smoke. They graciously moved us to another cabin. That cabin had no odors at all. I appreciated their response to the issue.

The only places on the 2 NCL ships that I have been on that smoke has bothered me is the kids pool on the Pearl and the Jewel. They placed it on the smoking side of the pool deck. It's not the smokers fault. They are smoking where it is allowed. Just seems like poor planning by NCL to me. There are no open windows in the kids pool corner, so they just have to breathe that air while they play. I also don't like that the walking/jogging deck is smoking on both sides. There are chairs lining those decks and we had many people sitting there chain smoking during the cruise.

Other than that, the rest of the ship always smelled clean and fresh (other than the casino obviously).

We've cruised Carnival, RCCL, X, and Princess and honestly don't see much of a difference between them with the issue of smoking other than what I mentioned above.

Whatever you choose, I hope you have a great vacation.

We had a bad experience on the Star during our cruise in March. Two cabins down from us there was a group that had three cabins linked together and those people were all chain smokers. I swear we would have 6 or more people on the balcony smoking for hours- we had to keep our balcony door closed.

As an aside this same group also stayed looped and were very LOUD. On one occasion I heard one of the wives in the hallway outside of our cabin door in the typical inebriated elevated talk explaining that her husband didn't want to go to dinner because he might take the edge off the buzz that he had been working on all day.
