We took a train from Cais do Sodre station. They are cheap and frequent (around 3 every hour). We got off at Estoril (about 25 minutes ride) and walked along the esplanade to Caiscais. There are several sandy beaches on the way, and Caiscais is a fishing port with marina (there are shops and restaurants here also). Catch the train back from Caiscais (same line/ trains).

You can use this link to look up train times and fares www.cp.pt

Just click on the British flag at the top of the page to get Eng language and then click on Lisbon, Caiscais Line.

If you dock out of town just under the bridge it is a 5/10 minute walk to the nearest train station, buy your ticket from the machine, climb the stairs and there is the station platform, get off at Estoril, walk the prom to Casacis which is the end of the line so no probs about returning.
