bluetiger9192 Posted May 20, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2010 I saw that Klukwan Indian Village and Klukshu Indian Village are two often listed as two stops along the Haines Highway. I am having trouble finding any information on what is there to do at these two sites if I am traveling independently. Do either site charge an admission fee? Thanks. Klukwan is a village where people live; it's not a living museum or anything. There aren't admission fees, but just like your neighborhood, I doubt they enjoy people just driving through, gawking. Besides, you're only going to see a village like any village in Alaska. However, I have taken a Klukwan tour from Haines and would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about Native Alaskan culture. The tour does gain admittance into tribal halls and viewing of a carved wall screen. This is the tour I took. There's another company that is starting to give tours as well, http://chilkatindianvillage.org/. I'm a bit dubious at that one, since they mention a gift shop, but they do tour the traditional Long House that was built recently. My tour guide was a local guy in a rattle trap old van and there were just my friend and I, just as a warning for lower expectations.
