mimicsr Posted May 23, 2010 #1 Share Posted May 23, 2010 Has anyone rented a car at cruise port in FFL and gotten transport to car rental center, where they used the vehicle for transport back to Tampa airport location? If so, how did it go, and what was the approximate cost. We are returning from a Transatlantic cruise in Nov. and need to get back home to Tampa. We are four adults with four med/large suitcases. Thanks for any replies.

Thanks for any replies. It really depends on several variables. The overall company policy on one way rentals, what day of the week it is, is it over a holiday weekend, whether there are too many or too few cars in FLL or TPA...I've rented cars for business from Hertz and gone one way from TPA to FLL and FLL to TPA without a drop charge. Rather than ask folks here you really need to go to the rental companies' web sites and go through the process of making a one way reservation with the exact dates and size of car with the different rental companies. Or you can use Travelocity or Expedia to get an overall idea which companies aren't charging a drop charge, look for discount codes and coupons for that company and then go to each individual rental car company's web site and see if you can get a better rate than the 3rd party travel sites. Also... Make sure you check the total price and don't just look at the daily rate. One company may have a daily rate half of another company but they could add a drop charge along with the taxes and fees. It sounds like you need a larger vehicle for your group, so make sure you scroll down to the SUV prices because a lot of companies will lower the rate on a SUV so they can mile it out and get it out of their inventory. A full size car should work for you guys and get better gas mileage, but you may get a deal on a SUV to make up more than the difference.

Disneyite Posted May 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 23, 2010 I know sometimes they add a million things to the cost of the car. Sometimes it's better to call to make sure. That happened to us in Ft. Lauderdale.

We've got a while yet, but I don't want to wait too long. Go ahead and make a reservation now then check from time to time to see if the price goes down. It doesn't cost anything to make the reservation and you can cancel it at any time. If you find a lower price, book it and then cancel the original reservation.
